Commercial Description:
The laws protecting the brewing of kolsch are as strict as the German Purity Law of 1516. Kolsch beer can only be brewed within the city of Cologne. As the best-known kolsch brewery, Gaffel's flavor is derived from an ale yeast that is "lagered" (or aged) in cold cellars. Gaffel is pale, faintly fruity with a crisp, hop finish. Enjoy as an aperitif or digestif.

Golden of color with a white head. An aroma of malt, crispy, dms and hops. A flavor of malt, hops and weak sweets and DMS.

Pours a yellow with a small white head. Aroma is a bit off, cardboardy. Taste is a bit stronger and dryer than others i’ve had, a bit more carbonated as well.

Clear golden with a large white head. Aroma was sweet and malty with breadish notes. Flavour was sweet with nice malty and caramel notes. Mild hops towards the finish gave it bitterness.

HAd this in Switzerland some years ago. My first and only Kölsch. Pale golden with medium white head. MAlty aromas with citric hints. Hoppy flavor with a dry finish. A bit watery but refreshing nevertheless.

Draught. One of my favorite styles. Pours a clear yellow, slightly effervescent, with a fluffy white head and nice lacing. Nose is faint, lightly fruity and dry pale malt, light hops. taste is superbly light and crisp - dry, clean malt note with a very light fruity presence, balanced by a dry finish that hints at bitterness. Mouthfeel is dry, crisp and very light. This is a subtle style, but one that I could drink all year long. Fantastic beer fresh.

Sampled at the Great Decatur Beer Tasting Festival in Georgia on 10/18/08. Yellowish in color. Fruity aroma. Taste was light sweet and fruity. Decent for a lighter style.

I have had this on tap in Koeln, but this was a bottle. Great Koelsch, with fruits and grapefruit and that drying finish. Carbonation just right. My favorite on tap but pretty good fro m the bottle also.
