Commercial Description:
The laws protecting the brewing of kolsch are as strict as the German Purity Law of 1516. Kolsch beer can only be brewed within the city of Cologne. As the best-known kolsch brewery, Gaffel's flavor is derived from an ale yeast that is "lagered" (or aged) in cold cellars. Gaffel is pale, faintly fruity with a crisp, hop finish. Enjoy as an aperitif or digestif.

Bottle. Pours a very clear straw colour with a light white head. Aroma is mostly hoppy and not pronounced. It is easy to drink and has a hops and grain taste. It is bitter with an abrupt finish. Overall I quite like this beer but it is nothing particularly special.

Pours a clear golden with a nice head that gets mighty spotty after a while. The aroma has notes of hay and grassy hops. The flavor is grainy and husky with some malty dryness and some honey notes. The flavor has some mild saltiness and some noble hops, not too bad. Palate is very crisp, clean and just mildly sharp..

0.33 l. Modern, transparent bottle design. Clear, golden color, average carbonation and a medium head, which collapses soon. Hoppy, grassy and "metallic" smell. Lightly sour taste. Watery, bitter aroma. Light-bitter finish. Light and refreshing beer.

50cl bottle bought form the SAQ. It pours a pale gold and has a floral aroma. The taste is lightly bitter with a medium sweetness, It has a light body and a mouth feel that is a little thin. This is my first German Kolsch and it is not wowing me.

50cl long bottle from Aachen. Color is dark yellow colour with average bubbly head. Hops dominate the nose. Aroma is hops, with some strange sour notes. Wellbalanced smooth flavour. Nothing exciting. Kölsch is not my league.

Pours a clear golden yellow color with a two finger frothy white head which has decent retention, only slowly fading into a thin cap and lasting ring. Sporadic spots of lacing. Bland aroma with some earthy grass and straw pilsner malt ad subtle hops. Light bodied with some crisp light golden fruit notes, a sweet pilsner malt like backbone with some grass and straw notes and a crisp slightly hoppy dry finish. Hints of apple and pear and a bit of the sweetness from the malt are decently balanced by the subtle hops. Easy drinking but not very complex.
