Commercial Description:
Cask; Regular.
Named after Butser Hill, the dominant hill on the South Downs, Butser is a medium strength bitter with a pleasant lightness of touch and good balance. Previously known as BBB, Buster was given its current identity in 1991.
Butser is a wonderfully light, thirst-quenching bitter. Brewed to 3.4% ABV, the flavour is well-balanced, with a delicate hop aroma and subtle malt and hop flavours on the palate. We recommend you try it with some cured meat - delicious!

Pint at the Kick Off. Poured a nice dark ruby with brownish highlights. Small beige cap. The aroma is quite nice, very Brit hop-forward with some mild cherry fruit esters and chrystal malts. Flavour starts out with some nice hop flavour as well as accompanying bitterness, transitioning into a pleasant mild malty sweetness. Watery palate that makes this one go down way too quick. Carbonation is medium but high for Bitter standards. Some sort of weird salty aspect immerges as it warms. All in all an enjoyable pint, deserving of a slightly higher over-all score. It’s nothing that bad, just very pedestrian.

Handpulled cask at a few Gales tied houses over the years. Chestnut with a white head. An innoffensive session bitter. Never had too much characture so hasn’t changed dramatically now that Fullers brew it.

Cask-conditioned at the Mad Bishop & Bear, Paddington Station 10/6/07. A decent session bitter. Amber coloured with a slight off-white head. Aroma was pleasantly fruity and slightly sweet. Flavour was also predominantly malty with a hint of a dry finish. Not bad.

Hand pump at The Ship, near Portsmouth. Thats not very helpfull, really - every pub round there is called The Ship if its not The Nelson or The Victory... Looks nice, clear amber, small head. Very sweet, like other Gales beers (ESB etc), malty, some hop dryness in the finish. A good light bodied summer afternoon beer.

Cask handpull at Basketmakers Arms, Brighton. First time I’ve had this beer. Clear amber colour with thin lasting off white head. Pleasant session bitter with decent tingling hop on finish. Some hop/malt aroma. Easy drinking in mouth, subtle decent citrus lmeony hop finish. Not huge flavour, but happily drinkable.
