After my horrors with the Conquest Ale, this wasn’t all bad. 2002 Bottle. Still brown. Aroma is thin, malty, cherries, sherry, port. Taste is pleasant, sherry oxidation, sweet maltiness, caramle.

Sampled during Cellar’s final beer tasting in St Paul, MN. From a 2001 vintage, pours a reddish amber brew with a fast dissolving off-white head that dissipates nearly clean. Aroma of caramel malt, some raisin, candy cigarettes with a hint of wintergreen. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonation with flavors of caramel malt, some dark fruits, and some citrus. Finish is semi-dry with a slight gingerbread and caramel aftertaste. Amazing for a retired beer, this was Cellar’s final beer sold.

Pours apricot with a shalow head that disappears. Aromas of tart stone fruit. Medium nectar with good carbonation. Theres a mild sweet and tart component that plays off eachother. The finish is laiden with pine. I actually enjoyed this brew despite my preconceptions.

Bottle. This was pretty old from what i remember. Pours an amber body with a light tan head. Malty a bit vinous and then an oxidized wet paper with etoh warming.

Vintage 2003. This brew didn’t offer me much. Some alcohol present in the aroma. I actually really liked the spiced carbonation, raison, caramel. Gross, rotten finish

2002 bottle - Incredibly deep beautiful very red amber body with the typical big bubbled beige Gales head; Super nose, deep full with very concentrated rose aromas super dense candy like, behind it tons of layers of malt warmer toffee caramel aromas, great; Super soft very well composed mellow totally balanced deep and very complex super interesting and very very pleasant body; moving smoothly into a finish that evolves over a very long time into fruity concentrated candy aromas, malt and a very fine tartaric bite. Another amazing beer from Gales, I am yet again very very impressed!
