Burnt alcohol and sherry nose. No head. Flat unimpressive palate. Sweet fruit and alcohol flavour. Pretty mild alcohol considering the ABV.

2001 Vintage. Dark copper color with no head. Very strong sweet malt aroma that hinted at Madiera. Oh man... past its prime... flavors of celery, cork and stale malt dominate. Very unfortunate.

Another gem from Ramsey. This pour brown and hazy. There is caramel and roasted bits of fruit. Alcohol is present.

2001 edition, purchased in Asheville, NC Murky brownish orange, no head. Nice apple butter on toast aroma, hints of fruitcake, too. Very appley flavor, with hints of pinealle, tobacco, and bourbon. As it warms, the tobacco begins to dominate.

When, I wonder, was this retired? It pours a "runny" brown with a cartload of residue (prompting a pour into another glass) and nary a trace of a head... the latter which I can live with, this being a barley wine. The aroma is a rich caramel and toffee malt with vinegar and alcohol. Thin. The taste is straight arrow, soured malts and alcohol... but combined in such a way that it tastes pretty good. Vinegary finish. I’m glad that I tried it, but I’m not hurt that it’s been retired.

near still, looking almost like apple cider. Apple tartness, very vinous, disappointingly one dimensional. Not sure what the goal of this beer is but I didn’t "get it". Beautiful packaging is the highlight here.

This barley wine pours a dark amber color from a cork finished 275ml bottle. No head. Aroma is spicy, some malt, some banana and a touch earthy, with a touch of alcohol. A medium bodied barleywine. Malts are caramel and sweet, with lots of port wine flavors. There seems to be a lot of wine lees and wine must as well. There is also a lot of apple cider flavors. I not sure just what is going on here, its kind of apple cider and bad port wine with some malt and hops. Thin and watery. Flat and listless. This stuff is in a word ‘”horrid”. Does the conquest part of the name imply that this is what they make you drink if you lose the war? Mouthfeel is thin. Finish is murky and muddy. Aftertaste is vinous and sour.

On Tap in Tokyo. (Thanks TimE) A dark amber color, slightly opaque with no head to speak of. A rich candy scent. Like a liqeur filled chocolate candy. Layers and layers of malts piled high one on top of the other. Sweet and rich. Little carbonation.
