| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Oct 14, 2005 Can from Waitrose. Dark amber with a long-lasting head. The aroma was mainly malt with a little fruit, possibly date, in there too. Very malty taste, shading into a slight bitterness at the close. Carbonation is about right, but there isn’t enough going on here to take it above the average. beerandrugby (210), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 11, 2005 (Can) Thin but creamy and dense head of fine bubbles. Low carbonation. Reduces to a thin foam with decent lacing. Roasted malt aroma. Dusty and dry with some hops presence. Color is a dark amber brown. Flavor has more roasted character. Slightly metallic and bitter. Some nuts in there also. Finish is a little bitter and creamy. A decent ESB but needs more hop bitterness. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 12, 2004 Being as this is the first Gale beer I could actually finish, it’s not all bad. An ESB in a can? Well ok. A decent ESB. I heard this stuff was about .35 per can so it’s worth that. Thanks JF_Grind for sharing this. egajdzis (3629), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 30, 2004 Updated: Aug 3, 2004Two Englishmen come in the pub where I bartend and informed me a local Jersey liquor store was running a deal on Gale’s HSB ($12.99 USD 14.9 oz. cans). These guys are good blokes and a premium bitter can be a good summer beer. I’m happy to say it was money well spent. HSB pours dark gold with excellent lacing, surprising for a plain old can of beer. "English" scent, adequate carbonation, caramel flavor, slight malt character. At 4.8% alcohol and its drinkability this bitter is a great summer session beer. I already bought a second case for camping in August.
