The color is reddish and it has no head, even though it gave a high fizz when the cork was lifted. The flavor is also very sweet with a wood background and earth, prunes, and plums notes combined with alcohol. The flavors last for a very long time. The flavor also reminds me a lot of portwine. Rustic aroma of overripe fruit. Medium body and completely flat. Distinct aroma of caramel, sherry and overripe fruit. Very subdued bitterness. An odd bird indeed, but I like it. 100507 omhper (12219), Stockholm, Sweden
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Oct 19, 2002 Bottled. Dark amber. Rich woody malty nose. Extremely malty, gente warming mouthfeel, incredibly rich, but still not overly sweet. Mature with notes of fine malt whiskey, really complex. By far the best example of British barleywine I’ve sampled. yespr (12135), Copenhagen O, Denmark
