stefanberggren (135), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jan 3, 2005 very interesting Old Ale...Past its prime even for an old ale (1996) winey like aroma and flavor. Oxidized to a point where I had trouble drinking. No carbonation, deep murky garnet color. Sweet with oak, plum and perhaps a faint whiskey note. Very complex, but there again too much oxidation which renders the ale like a flat sherry that has gone off....
hophead75 (1678), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Sep 22, 2008 1996 bottle. Murky amber in color with an almost non-existent head. Aroma of heavy sherry, oxidation, sweet caramel and fruits. No hop presence in the aroma. Taste is sweet sherry, oxidization, wet cardbarod, raisins, and sweet caramel. Somewhat cloying. Did not seem to age very well, it was quite hard to finish.
pepperford (103), robbinsdale, Minnesota, USA Sep 19, 2008 Bottled in 1998. Medium dark red in color with barely a hint of carbonation. Spicy aromas of allspice, corriander, apple, and figs. Thae tastes are a bit on the sour side, but not overpowering. A light belgian sour? robinvboyer (1047), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Sep 19, 2008 dark amber pour, no carbonation, aroma is musty, with some dark fruit, and a touchof bready malts. MOuthfeel is exactly like hard liquor, not swee tat all, and bitter. Flavour is like i just took a shot of cheap wattered down rye. Just awful.....gave me big time shivers. The finish and aftertaste are the best part, some nice bitter chocolate, and a really nice maple syrup note. But other than that i couldnt get past the flavour, and i dumped it. nqualls (414), Tennessee, USA Sep 12, 2008 Bottle. Poured a dark amber with a thin off white head. Aroma of red wine. Flavor is fruity with warming alcohol on the end. dwaggs2 (93), Warrensburg, Missouri, USA Sep 2, 2008 2001 Bottle. Pours an amber color with a thin head. Some sediment present in the glass. Aroma is wine, fruit, and very sweet. Taste is of yeast, dried fruits and alcohol. This is a great beer.
