Commercial Description:
Bottle Conditioned.
Ingredients: Maris Otter and minute amounts of black malt; Fuggles, Goldings and Challenger.

It is reddish in color with hops and apple fruit on the nose, spicy and malty in the mouth, and a dry, even tart fruity finish with hints of raisins and apple.
The slow work of the yeast in the bottle may increase the alcohol content to 12% or even more. After several years of aging Prize Old Ale gains a more complex palate with Calvados like character. It is said that Prize Old Ale is at its best after 20 years of maturing.
Bottled as Milestones Pale Ale to celebrate the opening of the Milestones Museum.

2005 version. Raisin, porto and wood in the aroma. Malty sweet and thick. Oily. Strong wood and vintage port character. No head. Alcohol burn. Very long hoppy, woody and oily aftertaste. Absolute world class! 1982 bottle, tasted in september 2007 in De Kulminator. Light grapes aroma. Thinnish. Woody flavor with apple, grapes and traubenzucker. Alcoholic. Over the hill (6 2 6 3 13 = 3.0)

Rating is on the 2007: Pours a dark reddish colour large off white head. Aroma is strong of fermented apples, oak and caramel. Taste is rich, fruity and sweet all the way through. Nice beer, cider like qualities.

Bottle at a beer tasting in Göteborg on July 4, 2008 Dark brown/red colour, with a flat head. Aroma of dry fruits, alc, dark choclate, and Viny ending. Flavor is smouth and citric, but has also a nice coffee/dark choclate mix, and werry Viny ending with alcy medium finish. Complex beer that need some age tobe better.

1998 Vintage. Dark brown-red pour with absolutely no carbonation or head. Very intense chocolate and nut aroma with hints of raisin. Smelled like a glass of port. Very winy and port like flavor as well. Watery chocolate flavor. Dry with very little sweetness. Smooth raisiny malt with an almond finish. A little bit of sourness. Very watery with no carbonation. Alcohol could not be detected. As I drink this I was expecting a kick at the end, but as its ten years old that kick never came. This made it seem very flat and lifeless. Otherwise decent beer.

Poured from 275ml bottle that was bottled in 2003. Poured cloudy, reddish brown with no head whatsoever. Aroma of wine, figs and apples. Tastes more like wine than any ale that I’ve tried. Fruity and flat but plenty of alcohol taste. This must be an aquired taste. It ’s definitely not my cup of...well, ale.

1996 bottle. Murky amber in color with an almost non-existent head. Aroma of heavy sherry, oxidation, sweet caramel and fruits. No hop presence in the aroma. Taste is sweet sherry, oxidization, wet cardbarod, raisins, and sweet caramel. Somewhat cloying. Did not seem to age very well, it was quite hard to finish.
