Commercial Description:
Bottle Conditioned.
Ingredients: Maris Otter and minute amounts of black malt; Fuggles, Goldings and Challenger.

It is reddish in color with hops and apple fruit on the nose, spicy and malty in the mouth, and a dry, even tart fruity finish with hints of raisins and apple.
The slow work of the yeast in the bottle may increase the alcohol content to 12% or even more. After several years of aging Prize Old Ale gains a more complex palate with Calvados like character. It is said that Prize Old Ale is at its best after 20 years of maturing.
Bottled as Milestones Pale Ale to celebrate the opening of the Milestones Museum.

1996 Vintage 9.3 oz Bottle. Pours a murky red hued brown color with no head or visible carbonation. Nose of caramel, fig, grape skins, plum, dark cherry, earthiness and good solid alcohol background characters. Mouthfeel is silky, smooth with a medium syrupy texture. Initiall taste of caramel, fig, plum and raisans. Mid palate displays more of alcohol characteristics, wet hay and cherry come through. Finishing sharp and vinous with a good caramel duration. Palate duration is above average. Medium body. Alcohol is well balanced for this brew. Very drinkable.

Poured from 275ml bottle that was bottled in 2003. Poured cloudy, reddish brown with no head whatsoever. Aroma of wine, figs and apples. Tastes more like wine than any ale that I’ve tried. Fruity and flat but plenty of alcohol taste. This must be an aquired taste. It ’s definitely not my cup of...well, ale.

1996 bottle. Murky amber in color with an almost non-existent head. Aroma of heavy sherry, oxidation, sweet caramel and fruits. No hop presence in the aroma. Taste is sweet sherry, oxidization, wet cardbarod, raisins, and sweet caramel. Somewhat cloying. Did not seem to age very well, it was quite hard to finish.

Bottled in 1998. Medium dark red in color with barely a hint of carbonation. Spicy aromas of allspice, corriander, apple, and figs. Thae tastes are a bit on the sour side, but not overpowering. A light belgian sour?

dark amber pour, no carbonation, aroma is musty, with some dark fruit, and a touchof bready malts. MOuthfeel is exactly like hard liquor, not swee tat all, and bitter. Flavour is like i just took a shot of cheap wattered down rye. Just awful.....gave me big time shivers. The finish and aftertaste are the best part, some nice bitter chocolate, and a really nice maple syrup note. But other than that i couldnt get past the flavour, and i dumped it.
