Pint pulled from The Railway in Putney (London), a light brown with a creamy head. Aroma is a flowery malt. Apricots and berries in the flavour and oh so smooth in the mouth. Yum!

Cask Conditioned at The Blinking Owl, North Newington, Oxon. Chestnut coloured with white frothy head. Another sweetish malty Xmas beer, plenty of fruity flavours but a thin body doesn’t carry them too well. Short hoppy finish. 2.7
Re Rate at The Woolpack, Banbury Much better this time, flavours that carry more than the beers low ABV, richly malted and fruity. Just go’s to show, its often where you drink the beer

As the name suggests, this is is a seasonal ale produced around Christmas time. In style, it is rather a hybrid between a warming winter ale and a fruity dark bitter. The brewery was not identiified on the pump clip, but I confirmed with the brewery that it is a George Gale beer. They also tell me that the pump clip has now been modified to show the brewery name. This is a deep red/chestnut colour. The nose is fruity, although this is relatively muted. Fruit dominates the initial palate but a good balancing bitterness develops later. Long finish, again with a nice hoppy bite. Some drinkers might be expecting a full bodied winter ale, in which case the mouthfeel is a little thin. However, I don't think that is what is intended and this is a nice beer. Handpump, Two Chairmen, London SW1, December 2003.

Jan, 2005 Britannia, Chatham. A malty red ale with some damp autumn leaves and a roasty bitterness at the back. Vague chocolate notes. Flavoursome Celtic Ale, but doesn’t quite pull it off in the finish. [2.9]
Dec, 2005JDW, Leytonstone. Earthy and juicy with red berries and fat glaced cherries in a hop soaked atmosphere. [3.5]

Cask handpull at County Hotel JDW Ashford. Dark mahogany colour with thin beige head. Very malty with raisins and sultanas, some choc. Not a huge aroma., Warming and sweetish malts in mouth with some following dry hop on the finish. Some brown sugar in mouth to give it that sweetness. Quite a good winter beer with plenty of rich fruit

NOt really exciting, although I thought it was from the same brewery, Robinsons. Perhaps this is the last beer I have from GAles, since it may be disappearing. A little bitter. BUt just good.

Cask Conditioned, at the Black Jug, Horsham, West Sussex. </br> Rustic brown colour with full beige head. Roasty malt base with dried fruit notes. Very quaffable is a polite way to describe it.

I love finding old notes. Had this at the Green Man last December and found it to be another typical ale of its kind, meaning that the palate was getting a bit jaded by this point. Nevertheless it is a good coppery colour and reasonable ead from the cask. Fruity nose and equally fruity flavour on the palate and good hop presence.
