ChrisFest. Toffee. Smooth and very drinkable. A lovely ale. Easy drinking yet lots of flavour. The strength has mellowed into flavour. Yum. Yum

Bottle. Pours a dark orange amber. Head is off white, small and slightly fizzy. Nice aroma. Tobacco, toffee, vinious, some apples as well. Very low carbonated, slightly fizzy mouthfeel. Flavour is roasted, sherry, vinious, dried fruits. Quite similar to port. Not too sweet though - balanced nicely with the roasted maltyness.

Rating 500!!!!!!!! Bottled 2005: Deep clear Orange with no head. No exceptions whether you poor aggresively or whatever! Vinous sweet vinegar aroma. Very sweet taste with notes of port and again fruits like plum, prunes & raisins. Easy flat body but has a filling feel. Warmth from alcohol but very anonymous really. Moderate bitter finish!

gahl06, bottled. looks just like any other beer - amber with a thin white head -but otherwise it is something else. aroma of tomato leaf, mint, pear schnapps, urinal cake. light texture, decently sour but still a touch floral, good stuff

Another truly amazing British Ale! Everybody should brew an Old Ale. The most beautiful clear amber body, beautiful very big bubbled white head; Lots of different notes are blowing out in my face, not in the American overwhelming way, but in a very fine and elegant way, a super balanced mix of: Thymes, laurel and rosemary, acidy fresh notes of green apples, vinous Sherry barrel notes as well as sweeter Sherry notes. VERY, VERY NICE; The body is salty, flat and oily at the same time as having a certain acidy freshness, balanced and deep; It finishes of very long with a bitterness and acidity that grows steadily with the length of the finish, super aromas are developing as dried prune, ripe red plum, fresh wet tobacco, fresh green apples. All in all a super beer, very elegant, very enjoyable, the perfect after dinner beer!

Bottle. Amber colour with a small off-white head. Sweet malty vinous aroma, with some fruity hints. Malty bitter flavor with fruity hints. Malty dry bitter and warming aftertaste.

Bottle. Head: Eh my guess is white but it went away so quickly that I missed it. Hazy amber body with a lot of yeast at the bottom. Spicy alcohol aroma. Complex flavor starting to be fruity and sweet but ending in a relatively sharp though not unpleasant grapefruit like sourness. Pleased that the alcohol did not dominate.

Wasn’t expecting this to taste like a lambic. Unfortunately the sourness seems to dominate a bit much, with the malt struggling to stand up and be counted. Having said that, it’s still decidedly good and enjoyable, but it’s somewhat like an empty promise. Although my experience may have been slewed by the umpteen beers that passed down the gullet before this one, battering my tastebuds and palate into submission. Sadly I’ll probably never get to sample it again to find out if that was the case.
