Aromas are apple and molasses with spices and herbal aspects. Has a strong alcohol. Flavours are sweet apple and herbal medicine - almost like cough medicine. Syrupy with oranges, spices and caramel. Tastes quite fresh for an old ale. A good way to take your medicine. fiulijn (7470), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 23, 2005 Cloudy red-dark amber color, more head than usual Gale’s ales. Nice aroma of malt, brandy, toffee, spices. Full mouthfeel, malty, vinous, with caramel and a wood touch and without the characteristic Gale’s sourness, but with its complexity. The final is warming, quite bitter and a bit astringent. Difficult but very interesting. thebeertourist (2822), Oslo, Norway
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Nov 20, 2005 Hazy amber with a head that reduced pretty quickly. Vinous, fruity aroma. Sweet and sour flavours, very complex, from berries to chocolate, but with good bitterness as well. Oily, full body. A wonderfully complex beer that will improve with age. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 1, 2005 Bottle. Cloudy reddish colour. Vinous, sherryish, dried fruit aroma. Flavour is also quite vinous and a little sourish. Low carbonation. Strange, but I kind of like it. Probably best in small doses. Emil (6074), Copenhagen, Denmark

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 24, 2005 (Bottle 27,5 cl) I was planning to keep this bottle for a few more years, but it was about to shoot the cork through the plastic coating and I wouldn’t risk losing most of a beer again in the same manner as what happened to my "Gales Christmas" about a month ago. Pity
Beautiful amber golden, presumably clear but with a wee sediment hiding at the bottom. Small, off-white head. Nose full of overripe fruit with a tart edge. Taste is also slightly tart, you get a notion of wooden casks, earth and noble rot. Dry, bitter finish. Complex and very unusual. 140805 hammenlind (738), Sundbyberg, Sweden
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 9, 2005 Pours hazy amber with a thin diminishing head. Sweet, dark fruit nose.
Slight alcoholic flavour with hints of raisin and cork. Somewhat woody in finish.
