I must admit it wasn’t that bad, but high hopes had only led to a pilsner that was just above average. Tasted from the bottle and poured into a pilsner glass. A huge expanse of wispy carbonation raised through its clear, light amber-gold body up to a thin and yet dense, lasting white crown that managed legs down the glass. Generous on the nose; slightly zingy and dusty malt dominated, underlyingly dank and unclean (reminiscent of egg yolks) with a little honey, chaff and stale hops. Not all too inviting. Surprisingly tasty in the mouth despite the offset aroma. Well rounded with a medium light body and sprightly carbonation. Noticeably sweet from the first mouthful; the sugary toasted malt flavours are well balanced by peppery and spicy hop notes towards the back and a softly bitter and crisp follow which remains reasonably fresh for the length. A light grassy bitter zing remains in the mouth between swallows. Not exactly a show stopper. I guess when drunk in bulk it would go down continuously with the same ease as the first. The aroma needs seeing too, though!!! (50cL, 02/05/06, Int’l Beer Shop, W. Leederville) Quinten (969), zaandam, Netherlands

Got the impression this was the cheap beer in Prague... couldn’t argue the price at 15 crowns a .5L. maeib (4767), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 15, 2005 Bottled. An old gold coloured beer with a nice white head to start. The aroma is quite sweet and malty and more reminiscent of a German beer than a Czech one. The taste is also sweet with some biterness coming through. Quite tasty and one of my favouirites in this style. theacelatrain (262), Washington DC, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jun 29, 2005 On tap, Prague. Clear golden with generally a huge frothy white head. Little aroma and somewhat watery flavor, but not offensive. Not much bite, but unbalanced towards hops over fruit. If you’re in the Czech Republic, a decent cheap beer, blowing US brands out of the water, but not worth import price tags in other countries.
