Travlr (700), Washington, Washington DC, USA Nov 7, 2009 Pours chestnut brown with a very small tan head and just a slight amount of lacing. Aroma is caramel candy, toffee and malt. Tastes of candy apples, and very sweet dates, with sugar-coated raisins. Not much hops leaves the malt abit unbalanced, so that sweetness dominates all aspects of this one. Alcohol is not well hidden. argo0 (6861), Washington DC, USA Nov 1, 2009 33cl bottle. Smallish beige head atop murky chestnut body. Aroma is moderately sweet, fig, Brandied prune, apricot, molasses, light Belgian yeast, earthiness. Taste is sweet and boozy, prune/raisin, some caramel/molasses, berry, light yeast. Sticky full body. No depth to this one, really just big sweet and fruity booziness. DeputyAndy (60), New Jersey, USA Oct 3, 2009 Pours a coca cola brown with very little head. Nice malty nose with figs, honey, and a tad of chocolate. Taste is very straightforward Belgian malts with little to no complexity. I will say, it does hide its 12% alcohol content very well, but I was left sort of unsatisfied for such a "big beer". Lots of carbonation which is a nice touch. Beerdedone (1873), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 27, 2009 Bottle. Pours a dark mahogany with a small off-white head. Aroma of dark fruit, caramel, yeast and has a touch of spice. Flavor was sweet with caramel, brown sugar, yeast and raisins with a medium body and has a nice dry warming finish. jgb9348 (2492), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA Sep 25, 2009 Deep brown coloured body with a very thin, two millimetre tall tan head. Aroma of sour grapes (like a lambic), caramel, malt, alcohol and a bit of tart yeast - nice! Medium-bodied; Strong assertive maltiness up front with some wheat and yeast, then fades to a pleasant tangy character full of fruit and ends with a mellow alcohol taste coupled with some raisins and pit fruits - nice! Aftertaste shows a mix between sour grapes and a malty, pit-fruity alcohol finish - good for the style and definitely an interesting take! I sampled this 33 cL stubby bottle purchased from Chevy Chase Wine & Spirits in Washington, DC on 25-July-2009, sampled at home in Washington on 25-September-2009. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 22, 2009 Bottle from Craft. Pours turbid dark brown with ruby hints and an off-khaki head. Nose is spicy yeast, peaty boggy malt, tart fruit, citrus. Tastes earthy, peaty, fruity, with yeasty spice, port wine, berry, caramel, and spicy flavors.
