Commercial Description:
Bottle; Unfiltered.
Gavroche was a generous and rebellious Paris urchin and a character in the Victor Hugo (1802-1885) novel “Les Misérables.” It is also a strong, amber beer, where the flavour of its top-fermentation yeast combines perfectly with the taste of the special malts. Fermented again in the bottle, the Gavroche beer should be served with care between 10 and 12°C.

(Bottle at La Gueuze, Paris, 15 Oct) Dark amber colour with explosive, foamy, beige head. Fruity nose with notes of dried apricots, raisins and figs. Slightly metallic. Fruity taste with dried apricots (or peaches?), figs and prunes. Notes of chocolate and plums. Starts slightly sweet, turns drier in the spicy finish. Well balanced and very nice.

Bottle. Dark amber, good sized creamy head. (3+) Alcoholic aroma, light malt notes. Dry alcoholic flavour with occasional moment of sweet yeast malt, light spice notes. Needs more flavour to round out the rough alcohol edges in my opinion.

Overwhelming head... Reminds me of a Duvel head. Very hoppy aromas... floral... grassy... woods like... a few spices... very lite pepper ... This is a somewhat flat beer even though it looks like its very carbonated... coriander... After a few minutes and room temperature, it has a realy creamy caramel taste and aromas of a little more alcohol... Anywho... this beer is overall ok !

Bottle poured into a snifter. Cloudy, even murky orange with a big, mostly lasting off-white head. Initially a skunky aroma, which mellowed out a bit becoming a meaty or woody yeastiness. Aroma otherwise hard to pinpoint beyond the yeast characteristics. Sweet malt flavor with some citrus, spice and tingling alcohol on the finish. OK to try once, but not all that impressive.

This Biere de Garde pours a medium amber color from a 330ml bottle. Large sized white foamy, long lasting head. Aroma is lightly malty, some fruitiness and some hops. A medium-bodied Biere de Garde Malts are caramel and fruity. Lots of dark fruit and raisin flavors as well. Hops are slightly bitter and a touch floral. Some rye bread flavors. Very smooth taste. Lively carbonation. Hides the 8.5% alcohol very well. Nice sipping beer. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is crisp and dry, with some spiciness. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Amber colored beer with beige foam. Complex araoma of sweet nuts and caramel, also soft fruity hints. Very tastefull and lovely taste, gateau, pain perdu, and dry raisins with brandy accent. This is a beer I really love. Afthertaste is delicious and ends with a little herbyness. Echt lekker.

The yeast taste predominates and it is more of a decent Blegium produced outside of France. Reminded me more of a Unibroue than a beer de garde, that flavour being understated. Quite drinkable, some grain and creaminess in mouthfeel.. Nice yeasty head and pleasant aroma.

Sublte notes of cider and malt. Huge thick head. Wonderful white wine port tones, citrus, raisins and a wonderfully fresh hoppy thing at the end. Long finish with alcohol burning slowly. Soft and foamy like no other I’ve tried so far. Truly a positive suprise!
