Commercial Description:
Bottle; Unfiltered.
Gavroche was a generous and rebellious Paris urchin and a character in the Victor Hugo (1802-1885) novel “Les Misérables.” It is also a strong, amber beer, where the flavour of its top-fermentation yeast combines perfectly with the taste of the special malts. Fermented again in the bottle, the Gavroche beer should be served with care between 10 and 12°C.

Amber body with a moderate head, good lacing. Aroma is yeast, caramel, hint of hops. Flavor has some grassy hops in the finish and later some alcohol burn. Not my favorite style, but I didn’t mind this.

Nice 330ml bottle design. Amber coloured body with light toffee aroma. A huge white cap that looks attractive in the glass. Surprisingly moderate palate compared to its strength in alcohol. Fresh apple flavour with a good share of malt and a bitter finish. Hidden alcohol. The flavours blossom as the beer warms up.

Pours bright orange/amber into a tulip. Monstrous, fluffy tan head. Sour fruit notes. Lightly carbonated and smooth. Upfront honey/hay with a lasting caramel finish. Feel (don’t taste) the alcohol.

What makes this style this style? Smells ok, looks ok, tastes ok. For being a wild yeast beer I thought it would be more wild and yeasty. and funky. Pretty balanced with a little hops and caramel in the finish. An average beer.

Bottle thanks to Willblake at the NYRBG. Mostly clear golden color with a small white head. Sweet, fruity malt aroma with some caramel, yeast and a bit of green apple. Flavor starts off sweet and malty with some caramel and doughy bread before turning mildly tart on the finish. I wouldn’t have guessed this was a Biere de Garde if I wasn’t told.

An unclear dark amber beer with an OK beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with light notes of both caramel and yeast. The flavor is sweet matly with primary notes of caramel, but also light notes of dust, hops, and citrus - I guess it all stems from the hops. I find it good for being Frensh.
