Commercial Description:
Bottle; Unfiltered.
Gavroche was a generous and rebellious Paris urchin and a character in the Victor Hugo (1802-1885) novel “Les Misérables.” It is also a strong, amber beer, where the flavour of its top-fermentation yeast combines perfectly with the taste of the special malts. Fermented again in the bottle, the Gavroche beer should be served with care between 10 and 12°C.

Bottle (330ml). via trade with Lubiere. Poured slightly hazy brass with a huge feathery-foamy white head, lots of sticky lacing. Aroma of yeast, wheat flour, pungent herbs, grassy hops, alcohol. Nice sweetish grassy flavour, yeast, spices, light malt, alcohol, decently funky - alcoholic, lively and sticky mouthfeel - a little boozy, but really nice, a yeasty, herbal treat.

Deep amber with a medium beige head. Aroma had notes of orange zest, caramel, coriander, some alcohol. Medium bodied with ample carbonation. The flavor held some sweetness tinged with alcohol. Nothing remarkable.

The pour reveals a clear orangey copper color with a thick bubbly offwhite head that leaves fair lacing on the glass. Good aroma of spicy and toasty malt with some mustyness. Very good flavor of spicy and biscuity malt with fruits, the hops are detectable only because of the bitterness in the finish and the alcohol is well hidden by the ample, generous body. The palate is spectacular with a thick and ample body and a soft and comfy texture, the carbonation though is a bit too strong, it kind of ruins the perfection of body and texture. A very interesting and well made bière de garde.

Cloudy amber-orangeish hue, with a frothy white head, with caramelized malt, toffeeish note, hint of fruitiness in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a sweet toasty malt character, a faint floral hops note, with a warming accent, leading towards a nice warmth and hop bittering finish.

Medium copper body with a slightly off white head. The aroma is The aroma is rich with pears and some earthy grass. There is also a hint oftropical fruit like kiwi, but it is hidden behind the nice earth. The taste is slightly sweet with carmel and some sweet light milk chocolate. There is also some light brandy along with some dry dried apricots in the finish. A nice sticky body with some cobwebs in the finish. A pretty damn good biere de garde! Glad to see a quality one in a small bottle.

03.26.06 11.2 oz bottle, ’order #1001’ Dark honey golden color beneath a massive, rustic, golden straw colored head that persists to the bottom of the glass. Aroma is yeasty with hints of sweet-tart candy, tangerine, caramel, and mossy earth. The impression I get is spring-like and fresh. No evidence of the high alcohol other than my rosy cheeks. Big and malty flavors are lifted airily across the palate on electric effervescence that will not quit. Lightly sweet, touches of herb adorn spicy yeast and mild malts. Mineral notes emerge and mix nicely with the garden of subtle dried fruits and flowers. A very nice beer, this, and perhaps wasted on me tonight as I just can’t seem to focus on the beer. One of the more pleasant examples of BdG I’ve come across without any of the oxidation that I seem to run into all too often. I like it, and I’ll buy it again.
