Commercial Description:
Bottle; Unfiltered.
Gavroche was a generous and rebellious Paris urchin and a character in the Victor Hugo (1802-1885) novel “Les Misérables.” It is also a strong, amber beer, where the flavour of its top-fermentation yeast combines perfectly with the taste of the special malts. Fermented again in the bottle, the Gavroche beer should be served with care between 10 and 12°C.

My first French ale, surprisingly good. Nice combination of malt and yeast flavors. It was easy to drink

The bottle poured tawny red with fluffy tan head, into a snifter. Fair retention and good lacing, the aroma has nice caramel and yeasty, bread crusty notes. I like the balance between alcohol, intense caramel and hoppy acidity. And it opens up nicely with a bit of warmth. One of my favorite French brews to date.

Nice red amber color, transparent, fluffy beige head. Sweet nose of honey, yeast, pepper, sugar. Slightly metallic. Flavor is very yeasty, still rather sweet with sugar, apple, some grassy hop bitterness that follows through to the finish. Pretty tasty stuff, though it doesn’t seem to have realized its potential.

I got a bottle of this on my trip to Paris in October and am rating from my notes. Poured a hazy amber with a small white head. It has a nose of ripe fruit. Medium mouthfeel. Flavor is heavy on the malts and the finish is lightly bitter. Good with a French Salad.

A bottle from Alko shop. Pale head. Pale copper coloured. Soft malty nose. Slightly sour taste. Quite hard taste at beginning some syropy. When getting warmer the taste is coming better.

Bottle: Pours a nice glowing hazy amber color with a strong light tan film of head. Aroma has some caramel soaked fruits, plum notes, a touch of diacetyl, and some peppery phenols. A bit thin with loose carbonation. Flavor is pleasant with some fruit skin bitterness (apple skin), mineral notes, smooth, lightly oxidized caramel, and a peppery bitter fruit skin finish. Not bad, just a tad lacking in body.
