Commercial Description:
Bottle; Unfiltered.
Gavroche was a generous and rebellious Paris urchin and a character in the Victor Hugo (1802-1885) novel “Les Misérables.” It is also a strong, amber beer, where the flavour of its top-fermentation yeast combines perfectly with the taste of the special malts. Fermented again in the bottle, the Gavroche beer should be served with care between 10 and 12°C.

Bottle. Bought some vintage bottle, not knowing its actually pretty common in NJ. Amber body with an off white head. Malty and dusty and oxidized metallic flavor. Some etoh warming.

Bottle: Poured a brown color with a foamy mess of off white head, once it decreased it left a lacy residue. Aroma is candy and caramel with a slight metal. Taste is a metallic coppery with a bit of caramel malt in the finish.

(Rating #1921)

Poured a large off-white head on a coppery red body. A little caramel in the aroma, some candi sugar as well as raisins. Metallic in the taste but not overly so, also some apple and some dusty notes. I enjoyed this beer but not too sure why.

Pours clear copper / brown with a large tan head. The aroma has dank mustiness, earth, caramel, hazelnut, toasted malt and cobwebs ~ very nice Bière de Garde traits. Medium / thick body with a touch of roughness and a bit of semi-sharp carbonation. The flavor starts with caramel that is dry, but somehow a bit rich as well. There are also the aroma notes above. The finish has a bit of spice and crispness with lots of yeasty funk. The is a nice Bière de Garde. This one seems quite divisive in the rating, but I think it very much worth giving a try if you are a fan of the style.

almost clear light auburn color, glaciery rocky head, quite lace inducing. Nose was a mess of tin and strange adjuncty spoilage...Flavors were metallic, dirty, and like old budweiser. Mouthfeel was significantly fizzy to the point of being absolutely distractive, but with this beer, that was probably a good thing. I kept burping...i guess past the metal, it tastes like...some more metal. This is not going anywhere. The carbination is like pop rocks, the flavors are like sucking on regular rocks...this is completely pointless.

Bottle opened with a huge gush, foam all over the place. After it calmed down, it poured a really nice copper red color with a huge white foamy head. Smell was a little bit of dark fruit, but a lot of weird metallic aroma. Flavor was horrid. Like sucking on a mouthful of dirty pennies. Was this bottle oxidized, or is that how it’s supposed to taste? I got two sips in and then had to call it a drain pour. Blech, blech, blech. It tastes like I just drank a glassful of cold goat’s blood. BLECH.
