Commercial Description:
Bottle; Unfiltered.
Gavroche was a generous and rebellious Paris urchin and a character in the Victor Hugo (1802-1885) novel “Les Misérables.” It is also a strong, amber beer, where the flavour of its top-fermentation yeast combines perfectly with the taste of the special malts. Fermented again in the bottle, the Gavroche beer should be served with care between 10 and 12°C.

Bottle opened with a huge gush, foam all over the place. After it calmed down, it poured a really nice copper red color with a huge white foamy head. Smell was a little bit of dark fruit, but a lot of weird metallic aroma. Flavor was horrid. Like sucking on a mouthful of dirty pennies. Was this bottle oxidized, or is that how it’s supposed to taste? I got two sips in and then had to call it a drain pour. Blech, blech, blech. It tastes like I just drank a glassful of cold goat’s blood. BLECH.

11.2 oz bottle-Cloudy amber color w/a moderate, foamy white head which lasted thru the brew. Light malt aroma. Had some roasted malt flavor w/some caramel & raisens, but this one was pretty weak. Thin, watery mouthfeel which leaves you wanting more. Short metalic finish, I doubt if I would drink this again.

BOTM bottle. Reddish copper pour with a huge fizzy cream head. Aroma of barnyard malt and grains. Taste of hops with an oaky finish.

Bottle purchased at Coaltrain Wine and Liquor. Pours hazy amber with a large, frothy, off-white head, mostly lasting with good lacing. Aroma is average malt (hay, straw, meal), average hops (flowers, herbs, grass), average yeast (horse blanket, barnyard) with notes of apple, grape, wine, and dust. Medium bodied, slick texture, lively carbonation, and a bitter finish. Average duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness.

Admirable and respectable but no fireworks of love for this one. Not as complex as I imagined. A bit of plum thickness with the flowerly hop taste backing it up. Dark red appearance is attractive but the flavor wasn’t a complete resonating delight. Herbal and faint biscuit mix didn’t flow so well for my palate. Fine to have again but won’t seek out.

33 cl. No date. WTF, if this is a "beer for keeping" then put a date stamp on it! Opaque dark copper with some red tints. Gushing head settles to a lasting thick cream with nice lace. Nice aroma of raisin, candi sugar and funky yeast. Similar flavors plus touches of acidic berry, vanilla, caramel, oak and some drying/warming alcohol on the finish.

Pour is a dark red with a very large tan head. Aroma is lots of caramel malts and a bit of honey. Flavor is super dry and dusty. It also has a very weird berry with some cloves and spice. Finsh is a little pepper and sour. A decent beer but more of a Belgian strong than A BDG.

Bottle. 11.2 fl. oz. Slightly hazy, ruby color with nice, silky cream-colored head. Excellent lacing and longevity. Aromas of fruit, vanilla, caramel, and light alcohol. Medium bodied with a smooth texture and light, dry finish. Flavor is fairly sweet and fruity all the through with a faint bitterness. Smoothes out nicely as it warms.
