xnoxhatex (753), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 7, 2008 Now that it is past cinco de mayo I can feel free to rate this French beer. 330ml bottle from Discount Liquors, Milwaukee. Hazy red-brown with medium creamy, long lasting, tan head. Aroma is fruity, nutty, brown sugar, yeasty, a mixture between dark and red fruit, very nice. Red fruit and nutty, brown sugar upfront with yeast and alc in the back but basically a very malt forward beer. Medium and very creamy body. This is a very nice beer all around, my only complaint is that in the flavor the alc takes away from making the flavor a completely full flavored, malt accentuated, well balanced masterpiece.
JesseM (337), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Jul 17, 2008 330mL bottle my parents brought back for me on a recent trip to Quebec that I couldn’t go on. This one pours a deep dark burgundy, slightly hazy with a HUGE beige head. Aroma is really different, booze, mild caramel malt, and major barnyard funkyness. I kind of dig it actually, despite it being totally bizarre to me. Complex funk. Like George Brown! Flavour is really neat, great malty sweetness the whole way through, lots of the sour funk upfront, mixed up with boozy notes, all making way for sweet and sour malt notes. Big mouth-feeI, with some very apparent alcohol warming. All about the malts, but as it warms some hops do make an appearance in this finish to add some bite along with the alcohol. I really do dig it, and I’m happy I do because I was afraid that I might not like it. Nothing at all like the only other Biere de Garde I’ve had, nor really like anything I’ve ever had. This one is a pretty funky beer in every sense of the word. Cool. skoisirius (429), Seattle, Washington, USA Jul 14, 2008 Bottle. I dig this one. Not very often does it happen, but for a Biere de Garde (even though its a stretch to call it that), I’m into it. Darker red pour leads to a of fruity and minor nut flavors that go well with the carbonation. Finish lingers on a tiny hop note...good stuff. durhambeer (314), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jun 24, 2008 Bottle. Pour is the definition of amber with a gauzy off-white head. Lots of malt on the nose, with additional metallic and mild floral/fruity notes. First taste is all a complex malt and caramel bomb, with the alcohol showing surprisingly much. Bit of a burn. This is a solid Biere de Garde, but it feels more intense than it needs to be. robinvboyer (952), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Jun 10, 2008 Oh, we have a gusher!!! as soon as i popped the cap, it came gushing out. Very dark brown pour with a very large ample head. aroma is sharp, and odd, its a sour like metallic aroma, with loads a diacetly. The flavour is also odd, more diacetyl, and some off sour fruity notes, wow, this iis all over the place, and not very enjoyable, its leaving a nasty sickly sweet aftertaste in my mouth, there is some sweet malt, but its being dominated by all the odd nasty flavours, wow, i dont like this at all. mgermani (558), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Jun 2, 2008 Pours a slightly hazy copper with a small layer of foam and some minimal lace. Aroma of pennies, diacetyl, and amber malt. Tastes oddly sweet - almost sickeningly so at first, but then the hops kick in and attempt to balance the finish. Lots of diacetyl, some alcohol. Thin creamy body, low carb. Not a fan.
