sweet, alcohol too present bhensonb (4339), Woodland, California, USA

The beer has a crisp fresh lager flavour which makes it very refreshing when served cold. A very drinkable beer for a hot arid climate as the name suggests. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 12, 2005 750 ml bottle. Pours clear golden with a large white head that diminishes rapidly leaving a thin film and some lacing. Aroma is malty and fruity, apricot, lemon grass, yeast and corn. Flavor is sweet with hints of citrus, hops and a bready yeastiness that lingers in the back of the throat. Medium body and gentle carbonation. I may be against the grain on this one, but I liked it quite a bit for a pale lager - especially as it warmed the flavors and aromas became much more pronounced and enjoyable. Dry, slightly caramelized malts and alcohol. Generally rather sweet nose. Dry cookies, biscuit (not oxydized), hints at sweet corn. Drier finish with mainly alcohol and a point of roasted bitterness. Fizzy MF, light alcoholwarming and cardboard aftertaste. Starts reasonable enough, but peters out to a (moderately) strong lager look-alike (if it is a strong lager, then why is it called "Strong Ale"?)
