These noltes conform nicely with the malt and allows for the bitterness to show off on the finish. Well balanced beer. blklab2007 (962), Connecticut, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 30, 2007 Bottle. Sweet caramel/toffee malt aroma. Dark reddish amber with moderate head. Sweet caramel malt flavor followed by a sharp alcohol bite and light hops finish. Pleasant to drink - very nice. mkgrenwel (420), Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Jun 22, 2007 I know this is blashemy, but I swear this one is better straight from the bottle than in a glass. Either way: caramel, alcohol and english hops in the nose. Same flavors in the taste as well. Sweet and malty (caramel) balanced well with nice spicy hops. Alcohol is present, but actually adds to the flavor instead of just tasting bad. It’s not too thin, but I might like this one to be a bit thicker. Another anachronism: I prefer this one in the summer, even warm. It is somehow refreshing, even though it should be more of a winter warmer. I don’t understand it, but that won’t stop me from drinking this solid beer. UPDATE: This beer is fantastic. Butter and toffee, but not an overwhemlong butter. Rich, smooth and earthy. A severely underrated beer. wingman333 (242), San Antonio, Texas, USA

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | May 13, 2007 Thin offwhite head of fine bubbles. Fades quickly. Minimal carbonation. Malty aroma with some light funky cheese and a bit vegetal. Appearance is a crystal clear dark mahagony orange. Sweet malty flavor with some molasses and a bit of harsh bitterness. Kind of roasty and kind of sickly sweet. Strange flavor. Finishes a bit dry and malty. Not really diggin this one. onehotsexychic (101), Albany, New York, USA

Some banana and pepper notes as well. The taste was the same with some sweet rock candy flavors also. Slight fizzy mouthful with dry finish. Really not taht bad.
