Almost syrupy sweet. Has a nice bitterness in it as well. Kind of burnt marshmallow in the flavor as well. Amber color with thin cream head. Pretty good. Im surprised. bipolar1 (268), Hancock, Michigan, USA

Just like clockwork, the UPS guy would leave a different 12 pack every month. One month it was this stuff. I drank it from the bottle, ice cold, from my 25 degree porch. The flavor is strong and addicting, with a clean finish and a good bite. I’m no beer expert, but I thought this stuff was really good. matta (1139), Tampa, Florida, USA

Draft, as all these Portland beers were. As many did… this poured a amber/bronze body and a cream colored head of froth. The flavor was moderately sweet, largely malty, caramel, light toffee, butter cream, syrup, but there was a crisp bite of spicy, peppery, woodsy fresh hop in the finish. It was a agreeably drinkable beer, slightly forgettable but certainly a solid pint. TheBeerGod (3169), Newport News, Virginia, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 21, 2005 Bottle. Pours amber with a medium tanned head. Nose is malty with light toffee, caramel and hints of butterscotch. Pretty sweet. Taste is much the same - creamy malts, caramel, and butterscotch with light spicy hops. Some mild carbonation and lingering bitterness in the body; medium otherwise. Finish is more sweet malts, caramel and butterscotch. Decent beer but nothing to rave over. beerbuzzmontreal (2921), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 19, 2005 Pours a slightly cloudy copper color with a ring of lace around the glass. Aroma and flavor of hops and honey. Medium body, creamy and oily texture, lively carbonation. Nothing special. IslandHaole (1035), Onna-Son, Okinawa-Ken, Japan
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 11, 2005 A clear Orange/Ruby color with a beige head. Plenty of bubble action. Nicely balanced nose of the toasty crystal malts and hop combo. Some raisin in there too. Hoppy and woody up front, sweet malts, slightly earthy in the niddle with a bitter follow that fades into a short-lived even more bitter (bitterer?) aftertaste. The beer itself is good enough, but an odd style. Not a session bitter but not a barley wine. I guess that’s what an ESA is supposed to be but it doesn’t really work for me. Duke (117), New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 22, 2005 Medium orange pour with a creamy head. Floral, carmel and toffee aroma. Palate was a bit too sweet, thick, oily for my taste. Finish has good hop bitterness. rudolf (1783), Buffalo, New York, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | Jan 19, 2005 reddish gold, nex tot no head. Quite a bit of sweetness in the nose - honey, raisins, bubblegum. That is balanced with some pretty aggressive hops and alcohol. Kinda strange flavor. Quite toasty with a really unpleasant astringent finish. Aftertaste has honey but also medicine
