Commercial Description:
Hampshire has a huge toasted malt flavor balanced by assertive hoppiness. The finish is long and lingering with the malt and hop notes blending with alcohol warmth. Two row English malts (pale, crystal and chocolate); Cascade, Mt. Hood and East Kent Golding hops.

Pretty good, but not exceptional. Not all that strong for a strong ale. I had this one a few days ago and as I think back and try to remember what (if anything) stood out, I’m drawing a blank. I just remember that it wasn’t that bad, but it must not have been great or I would have had more of a reason to remember it.

My rating is a composite of the 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 versions. There are subtle differences, but they are very similar as such. Pours deep copper with big white head. Malt, hop, slight fruit aroma. Same tastes, with a hint of chardonnay at culmination. Solid.

Hoppy ale. Sweet smelling, though a little too biting. A decent drink. Tastes fine.

A clear copper body below a thin off-white head. Scent of apples and hops. Flavor is piney hops and light fruit. What is there is good, but it seems a bit boring.

Light copper with a medium head and slippery nearly clear lacing. Aroma is spices, hops and alcohol edge. Taste isvery smooth and full; mostly balanced with hops dominating as it warms - citrus (orange peel) hop gains presence. Finish is dry and the alcohol creeps in again. Too much alcohol for only 7%abv.

fruity/cidery hop aroma, reddish orange, nice body with a good balance of toasted malt with citrus hop flavors but subdued bitterness

Dark amber/reddish color. The nose has an overpowering sweetness. With scents of bananas, raisins, and caramel. Medium bodied with an oily texture. The initial flavors are sweet caramel, fruit, and some alochol. Hop flavors quickly take over and the finish is a moderate lingering bitterness. Overall, a well balanced beer. This beer wasn’t exactly what I was expecting, but it was a pleasant surprise.

Deep copper body, persistent medium off-white head. Strong aroma of brown sugar, toast, dark fruit, and caramel. Flavor was quite potent as well with the same components mentioned for the aroma. Alcohol is noticeable but not overbearing. Medium-bodied. I’d drink this again.
