scraff (1921), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Oct 28, 2009 12 oz - The Wine Source. Dark copper, off white creamy head. Dried buttery citrus and spruce aromas warm to a light toffee raisin undercurrent. Dry citric-pine bitterness is nicely balanced on a buttery toast and toffee-like tone. Full bodied, soft carbonation, drying bitter finish. English in style, but I personally prefer West Coast style DIPAs... jason (1620), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 21, 2009 Bottle. Poured a deep orange red body with thin head. Aroma is faint hops and citrus. Flavor is light citrus, caramel. Nice mouthfeel and very quaffable. As it warmed I found it to be very satisfiying. Sparky27 (1559), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Oct 9, 2009 Bottle thanks to dkachur. Pours clear dark amber with a thick one finger tan head. The nose is bubblegum, tangerine and apricot. The taste is more bubblegum, earthy hops, caramel and resin in the finish. Medium mouthfeel. Decent DIPA. A bit sweeter than I’d prefer, but still tasty. Thanks for sending this Dan! CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Oct 7, 2009 Pours a transparent dark copper amber with a a thin, stringy-lacing white head. Aroma of lightly caramely sweet malt and some orange citrus hops. Starts with decent malty fullness and fine carbonation with a resiny earthy hop bitterness before a drier bittersweet finish. An ok imperial IPA, but could use a more floral hop presence and balance. Leighton (234), New York, New York, USA Sep 15, 2009 A pretty solid imperial IPA. I’m a sucker for big beers, but I must admit that this was not the absolute best imperial IPA I’ve ever had. Still, though, pretty damn good and quite big. Nice copper color, rich aroma of hops. Tasted complex and hoppy with a mild dose of malt. Had that nice lip-smacking quality that good IPAs have. Finished qutite smooth. A good rendition here. dkachur (2316), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Sep 9, 2009 12 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear reddish bronze color with a medium frothy head. Fair head retention and decent lacing. Floral and citrus hop aroma with light toffee notes. Taste is toffee and caramel with citrus and light resin hop notes. Medium bodied. asheft (1374), Marburg, Germany Aug 29, 2009 [bottle]
Strong hops aroma: grapefruit and orange blossoms. Bright bronze appearance with a white ring. Slightly salty grapefruit hops flavour with some piny bitterness that balances medium residual sweetness. Notes of apricot and celery. Medium body, medium carbonation, lasting bitterness. natejgood (188), Denver, Colorado, USA Jul 17, 2009 Pours a medium to dark brow/golden color. The head is an off white made of small bubbles. It doesn’t disappear immediately, but it is pretty quick. The aroma is pretty much all hops with maybe a hint of citrus fruit. The taste is quick surprising for an imperial IPA, especially after the aroma. It is fairly malty and sweet. There is a bit of hoppiness, but it is overwhelmed by the other flavors. The flavor isn’t bad, it’s just not what I look for in an imperial IPA. This beer also tastes a little high alcohol. I would have rated this beer higher is it was another type of beer.
