Commercial Description:
Beer #2 of 4 in a special release series celebrating Geary’s 20th Anniversary. Imperial IPA has its origins in the traditional English style, with a generous helping of American exuberance. Bright copper in color, Imperial IPA has an assertive hop bitterness balanced with a subtle malt foundation. Dry-hopping at two stages of the brewing process provides floral and fruity hop flavors adding to the complexity of the brew. Strong, assertive and balanced, Imperial IPA is made for true beer lovers.

12 oz - The Wine Source. Dark copper, off white creamy head. Dried buttery citrus and spruce aromas warm to a light toffee raisin undercurrent. Dry citric-pine bitterness is nicely balanced on a buttery toast and toffee-like tone. Full bodied, soft carbonation, drying bitter finish. English in style, but I personally prefer West Coast style DIPAs...

Location: 12 oz bottle from Wine and Beer Westpark, 12/19/09

Aroma: Nose is sweetish with resin, citrus, caramel, and pine
Appearance: Hazy, dark caramel colored with a thin beige head
Flavor: Somewhat sweet up-front with a moderately long, bitter finish
Palate: This one has a medium body and is slightly dry
Overall Impression: Not the best DIPA I’ve ever had, but it is a solid beer. It could use some work to make it really good, but as is, it is pretty solid.

12oz bottle sampled at the DC local tasting. Pours a transparent, copper amber with a creamy, lightly lacing white head. Aroma is all hops, spicy, resiny, a little earthy. Flavor is more pine, some sweet caramel, lemon zest, biscuit malt. Dry finish, slightly bitter.

Pours deep amber into a shaker. Bright white head with excellent retention slowly recedes leaving spot lacing. Orange and plum metallic aromas. Flat grass upfront turning to sour spruce in the lasting finish.

Poured mostly clear and copper. The head was average size and white and produced above average lacing. The aroma was grassy, earthy hops with a bit of pine and some sugary sweetness. The flavor was pine and grass mostly with plenty of sugary malts giving it balance. Almost medium bodied mouthfeel. Serviceable.

Bottle. Poured a deep orange red body with thin head. Aroma is faint hops and citrus. Flavor is light citrus, caramel. Nice mouthfeel and very quaffable. As it warmed I found it to be very satisfiying.
