| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 22, 2006 Pours a deep dark brown, mostly opague with some amber highlights and a nice frothy bubbly lasting tan head. Aroma is chocolate malts, nutty, lightly fruity from the esters- house yeast character and a bit of floral hops. Clean toasted and chocolate malt flavor with some nice roasty dry bitterness in the end. Carbonation is just a bit too high to make the mouthfeel a bit bubly and is also a bit slick, but otherwise this was a pretty good porter. I would have thought this was at least 6%? thornecb (1799), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 18, 2006 Different label. Pours deep mahogany/ebony into a shaker. Micro mocha head with good retention leaves no lacing. Sour chocolate milk aromas. Upfront sharp sour metallic with a lasting hoppy, dark chocolate finish. lagermonkey (597), Marietta, Georgia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 27, 2006 Pours dark, nearly opaque brown with a thin tan head. Smells of roasty malt and a sweet dark malt.
Taste is a nicely balanced roasty malt, lots of coffee and bitter chocolate tempered a bit with some sweet chocolate malt. Medium bodies and smooth in the mouth. Some light coffee aftertaste.
Really tasty, an old favorite. If you can get it fresh, it’s a great session beer. TaktikMTL (2786), Montréal-Nord, Quebec, Canada

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 22, 2006 12oz bottle; poured an opaque black; not many hints of the ruby colouration that some porters have. A solid head that lasted. Hints of chocolate and coffee bean waft outward. I get the impressions of the cherry as mentioned by michael-pollack below. There’s a musty woodiness here that is appealing and interesting. A tanginess and chewy roast malt comes forward in the taste. There’s a sweet follow-through. It reminds me of dark chocolate truffles. beastiefan2k (1605), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 8, 2006 Bottle poured into La Fin Du Monde tulip. Pours BLACK with a small frothy tan head. Aroma is present - as the description says "restrained" roast. Dont know why anyone would want to restrain something positive but thats just me. Some faint hints of chocolate sweetness behind that. Mouthfeel is full bodied enough for a porter but a bit lively for me. Taste is a subdued version of the aroma. Some faint roastinees but no hints of sweetness. Finishes airy and leaves a faint coffee-like aftertaste. deduchar (32), Rhode Island, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 24, 2006 This beer is okay, but for a porter, I would hope for a little more. However, overall, not a bad beer. Some of the other types are a little stronger that Gearys has to offer. VTHopHead (925), Barre, Vermont, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 15, 2006 Bottle - Poured a very dark, almost black in color with a tan head. Aroma is heavy of roasted malt and chocolate. Flavor is also of chocolate and roasted malt... some bitterness is no doubt due to some hops, but the flavor of them was not evident.
