Aroma is like chocolate ice cream with a hint of anise. Very roasty on the tongue with a delicious burnt chocolate flavor that lingers. Very good porter. | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jun 15, 2006 12 Oz Bottle. Pour of carbon black, with a quite thin toasted almond head. Aroma of burnt walnut skins, tangy lemon rind and hints of cocoa. Flavor is a harsh watery burn of cheap Dunkin Donuts coffee, bad dark chocolate and dusted Christmas fudge. Too much overwhelming nitrogenous black malt. No balance, with oak dry hops. Undrinkable. wickedpete (629), Lexington Park, Maryland, USA

| 1.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 1/5 | 6/20 | Apr 26, 2006 Updated: May 17, 2006Bottle. Thought we ought to get a sampler 12-pack of a local brew while in Maine since I doubt I will ever be in this state again... Pours huge tan head. Nearly opaque black. Very faint malt nose. Far far too carbonated - lots of rising bubbles which kind of troubles me for a porter. Harsh metallic pipe flavor overrides any discernable nuances this brew might supposedly contain. Sour on the back of the tongue with only mediocre roasted flavoring. This might be the worst porter I have ever tried. Maybe I got a bad batch? Well I have a few more days up here to verify... will change rating if applicable. Looks good. Tastes repellant. RERATE: Nah. It sucks, alright. Fin (3448), Merton, Oxfordshire, England
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Apr 11, 2006 Bottle, Boston in a bar close to the Back Bay Hilton Dec 05. Slightly diff’ label it now has Union Jack on it. This beer looked very dark but the bar was so devoid of light it felt like we were in a cave. Good roasted taste with a small head, quite smooth, ok. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 4, 2006 Bottle (12oz). Via trade with Ruggedman. Poured opaque ruby-brown with an average creamy-fizzy tan head. Solid if slightly mild roast milk chocolate malt, hints of coffee, cola and fruit. Taste follows exactly on, with some smoke - very smooth, chocolatey-sweet; mouthfeel is creamy, above-average body for a porter, nicely carbonated ... very nice! 00cobraR (1098), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA
