Some lacing, some of head kind of coagulates and floats on surface in globs. Mouthfeel a bit watery but not bad. Tastes pretty ho-hum, I was getting a vegetable-like aftertaste, like I’ve tasted in homebrew. badnewsbeers (1026), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA

| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jun 23, 2005 2004 bottle consumed on 6/22/2005. Brown cola, bubbly, with mahogany throughout and auburn edges. Head immediately fizzles to ring. No lacing. Later in the pour, however, after it has warmed, a good-sized, tan head does form, with moderate retention, but still no lacing. Very dry, roasty aroma, with light acidity. English yeast and an English style porter (in case you couldnt tell by the name). Brown bread in the nose as well. Flavor of salty, brown pretzels, pumpernickel bagels. Lightly spicy hops, almost getting clove-like notes as well. Very earthy and dry to the last drop. Filtered, which leads to a lightly peppery carbonation and loose, thin mouthfeel. English style porters should NOT be filtered (well, no beers should be filtered, IMO, but especially not these). Lizabeth (360), east falmouth, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 31, 2005 Bottle. Nearly black with a thin foamy brown head. Nose: espresso and molasses. Taste: sweetened espresso, sarsaparilla, raisons, figs, almonds, hazelnuts and cocoa. A pleasing example of the style.

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 31, 2005 Absolutely delicious. A perfect porter done with just the right amount of coffee and chocolate flavors present. There’s even a hint of some fruit and nut tastes present but they’re so well balanced into the beer that it’s hard to pick out. This is a must have for the Geary’s fan.
