| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 12, 2004 I’ll have to thank my sister for bringing me this beer home from the New England family vacation that I missed this past summer.
Poured a dark brown / black body, with a thick pillow of khaki head… nice lacing! The aroma and flavor were weak, dark toasty malts, cardboard like, with a slight hint of bittering hops. There was really nothing going on here. A hint of coffee…. That was really it, other than a light grainy flavor of oats. Sadly, I was very unimpressed! GonZoBeeR (2161), ste-Eulalie, Quebec, Canada

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 11, 2004 Pours dark brown almost black with soft tan head with clears quickly. Nose is of bittersweet chocolate and a light maltyness. Something strange lingers like a scented candle mocking porters. Flavor is semisweet, light chocolate and coffee. Finishes better than it starts. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

Appearance: deep, dark brown with little rays of red peeking through, and a lovely creamy, fuzzy, brown collar on top.
Aroma: soft and creamy, yet offering up beautiful, bittersweet espresso notes. Roasty, dark, delicious, captivating.
Taste: nice hops up front, and soon a fruity flavor comes forward. Body is medium, texture ample, but the finish a bit too quick. Seems to rush off the tongue, leaving only faint hints and whispers behind on the palate, quickly vanishing. A nice ordinary, passable porter, not that I didn’t dig it, no. Quite the drinkable ale, just not too extraordinary.

Yikes, this isn't toasty, and it's not dark roasted, no, it's burned to a crisp! I've never had a London-style porter that had this type of harsh, burnt flavor; Though smoky and burnt, it's still only moderately bitter; There is very little sweetness here, and accordingly, the palate is very dry; The nose is dark roasted and dry; Nearly black and quite opaque, but ruddy brown at the edges; Light tan head gradually fades away, leaving a bubbly lacing that slides back toward the head shadey (1500), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 20, 2004 Pour is jet black with a huge faomy tan head. Great lacing on the mug. Lots of dark chocolate in the aroma and flavor. Palete is chewy and rich. A delicious porter. Geary’s does a great job. willblake (2177), Belcamp, Maryland, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Aug 20, 2004 08.18.04 12oz bottle. Dark brown pour with minimal head. Aromas are roasty, maple, licorice, berry. Odd flavor up front. Very acidic/sour. Roasted middle and aftertaste. End is somewhat vegetal and off. I was really let down by this beer and don’t get the high ratings. Bad quality control?
