Commercial Description:
Faithfully recreated by Geary's, this classic English style has a deep mahogany color and a restrained roasted malt flavor. The result is rich and complex, yet smooth and refreshing.

bottle at the Flying Saucer in Charlotte. small tan head (mostly lasting) into black body. aromas of moderate bitter but sweet malts (some molasses). flavor is pretty much the same (moderately bittersweet throughout. did have a long, long, long finish duration and a creamy mouthfeel. enjoyable for what it was.

Draught @ Great Lost Bear. Rich black with slight red tint. Diacetyl abundant in nose, on background of black cherries. Low carbonation, soft mouthfeel. Not roasty, slightly sweet. Thin and watery and slightly sweet but still manages to retain a good malt character and so is more decent than it seemed at first.

Bottle. Heavy in the chocolate department, fairly roasted. Silky smooth light creaminess. Very enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown/black with a light tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roast, coffee. Flavor of the same chocolate, roast, and coffee with a bitter hops finish. Sweet malt, but not too sweet. Smooth palate, quite drinkable. Average to slightly above average porter.

maybe i got a bad batch or something... looks great-very thick head with no lacing although even after it dies down there’s still a half-finger present. it’s got the standard toasted coffee and chocolate maltiness, but i taste something plastic. in a few there was a very prominent lactic sourness that made it difficult to sip. i donno. i like geary’s and i love porters, but i can’t seem to get into this one.

Ok, not world rattling. It’s a nice beer with a full aroma of dark malts, and some coffee. It is a very dark brown-black color, with a rather absent head. It tastes of dark barley malts, coffee, a minor bit of chocolate. I found it to be a bit laborious to finish, not entirely smooth.
