| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 2, 2008 Pours opaque. Head is a bit of a darker tan. Huge also because I poured very firmly. Nose is basically like dusty chocolate. Not very impressive. Flavor is bordering on bland. Not much interesting going on here. Sure it has a nice steady body. But no real strong characteristics that stand out above the malt character? Feel is a bit thin on the liquid with a good carbonation. Overall it is very smooth which makes it very drinkable. But I just have to wonder if this was the freshest bottle available. Maybe I will try again one day. scraff (1954), Baltimore, Maryland, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 17, 2008 Deep brown, creamy light tan head. Nose held soft notes of mild coffee and chocolate that warmed to touches of grape, apple skin, and prune. Red fruit flavors balance on lighter coffee and chocolate tones. Light bodied, soft carbonation, tangy, bittersweet finish. Not spectacular, but just a decent English-style porter… mrant (330), New York, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jan 11, 2008 Smells of dark roasted malts, chocolate and caramel, some coffee. Pours an opaque black with a small light brown head. Taste is mild chocolate and caramel malts with some watery bitter hops. mansquito (838), Boston/Philadelphia, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Dec 28, 2007 Quickly dissapating head (twas tan) almost black, carbonated and unfiltered looking. Then there was a mild aroma, that was pretty standard. The taste kind struck me as weird. Sweet finish. Roasted malts. Frankly, I don’t even know what the weirdness was... artificial chocolate flavour maybe (you might know what I mean...). Ughsmash (4062), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 28, 2007 Bottled with a newer-looking British flag motif. Poured clear, deep iced tea brown with a short-lived, creamy cap of medium brown head. The aroma picked up bunches of roasted grains along with lesser chocolate notes, some coffee, and molasses.. a bit of pine and herbal hoppage for accents.. enjoyed it. The flavor had more roasted grains than anything else, with some sticky caramel and sweeter chocolate at the sides.. just a little herbal bitterness.. very sweet finish.. not bad, but not very complex. Lighter-bodied with enough carbonation to keep it moving across the palate.. dry, sweet finish.. decent flow. Overall this was quite enjoyable. jhliesen (406), West Melbourne, Florida, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Dec 9, 2007 Bottle--I just couldn’t detect any type of aroma, even after the beer warmed up. Poured with a small, tan head and a solid black color. The taste was all roast and thin. Asheville Wine 1.60 gwpom (253), Akron, New York, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Dec 9, 2007 Bottle. I agree with an earlier review, seems a bit watery, not a lot of body, a very average porter. Even the head was thin and vanished quickly. Glad I only sampled a bottle. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 30, 2007 Pours near black with ruby hues and mostly maintained wispy tan head. Aroma of foamy chocolate, roast, plums, and alefruits. Taste is more sweet caramel and toffee, than roasty. Hint of chocolate, some flaked barley. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth (flaked barley), with foamy carbonation. Pretty nice porter.
