Brewbie (128), New York, USA Jun 16, 2008 12oz bottle. dark black, small head which quickly disappears. aroma of sweet chocolate. very sweet creamy taste, with a very slight dry bitterness in the finish. good but just seems to be missing something.
Wulfstan (481), California, USA Sep 21, 2008 This is a very nice, solid porter. Essentially black, it has a huge, light brown head steadily shrinking to a thin top with a little weak lace. It has a nice porter aroma of toasty dark bread with hints of dark fruit, chocolate, coffee, and wine. The taste is light in body, zesty (less light and lively than Nethergate Old Growler, but more so than many), with a clean flavour of toasted dark bread, light roastiness, a sweet fruitiness folowed by drier, toasty finish with hints of chocolate and black pepper. It’s quite drinkable. DrDavid (333), Johnson, Vermont, USA Sep 4, 2008 (Bottle). Chocolate and roast aroma. Near black color, tan head. Flavor is very roasty, full of malt and chocolate. Rather short finish. Pleasant beer. daknole (838), Plantation, Florida, USA Aug 24, 2008 Bottle from my trip to Vermont. Pours a dark black color with a small head. Aroma is fine of chocolate and molasses. But flavor is bitter, watery and almost tart. Too dry for me. Give me a Fullers Porter please!!! Geth_in_beer (677), Nova Scotia, Canada Aug 17, 2008 Sampler. Classic ruby red to black appearance with a thin head. Malt slight smoked flavour. Would like to rate this again as it was one of my last at the Seaport Beerfest Halifax. mhelgason (444), Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Aug 14, 2008 bottle at the Flying Saucer in Charlotte. small tan head (mostly lasting) into black body. aromas of moderate bitter but sweet malts (some molasses). flavor is pretty much the same (moderately bittersweet throughout. did have a long, long, long finish duration and a creamy mouthfeel. enjoyable for what it was.
