| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 2, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark reddish brown with a small off white head. Aroma is caramel malt mingled with a peaty, earthy scent. Palate was towards the heavy side, but not oily. Flavor was heavy malt with some chocolate and molasses. Also, a taste of oatmeal bread. Not the best Scotch Ale I’ve had, but certainly worthy of a look. thornecb (1791), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 30, 2009 Geary’s Wee Heavy is back and a 4-pack soon found it’s way in my cellar. After a few separate tries I’m finding my way into this beer. Pours a rich mahogany almost dark brown allowing very little light to pass through. A constant 1/4" brown, bubbly head that screams "creamy" and minute amounts of lacing. Malty, malty aroma that’s sweet, earthy, and peaty. Nuts and berries with biscuits and freshly buttered bread. The scent opens up greatly as it sits, warms, and breathes. I taste a considerable amount of crystal malt, lots of nutty and molasses characteristics. Rye bread, wheat bread, and hot rolls. No hops necessary, just let the creamy, thick malts roll together. A noticeable buttery flavor carries over from the aroma. Not sure if it’s diacetyl or intended, either way it’s somewhat suiting with the overall flavor, but it does seem a touch distracting. Creamy, filling mouth feel. Heavy malt content with a sweetened aftertaste. Overall it’s a nice offering and a great change of pace from what I’ve been enjoying as of late. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 20, 2009 (Bottle) Pours very dark amber with a reddish hue. Half a finger of khaki/biege head recedes to a thin lasting covering. Aroma of candyish malt and some licorice. Nice light, weepy rings and sheets of lacing. Mouthfeel medium-full, fairly smooth, just a touch of stickiness and just a tad fizzy. Flavor features candyish malt, toffee and licorice with a nice peaty/smoky quality that emerges more as it warms. Lightly hot warming presence. A bitterish pull through the finish provides a light bitter and warm aftertaste. Think Geary’s HSA only slightly darker, thicker, maltier, hotter and with a twist of peat. Not bad. ruggedman (626), Portland, Maine, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Jan 10, 2009 They now sell this in botttles, not sure if they’re going to bottle all of their old 20th anniversary beers from a few years ago, but I hope they do. This was a peaty flavored scottish ale, some heather in there too. Sweet caramelly malt dominated flavor and aroma. Actually tastes a little smokier than most Scotch ales i’ve had previously. jimhilt (1687), Bow, New Hampshire, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 26, 2008 Pours a three finger light tan head that fades slowly to a thin layer leaving some lace. Deep mahogany color, Slight caramel/smokey nose. Medium carbonation and medium-heavy bodied. Flavor is almost sweet caramel with smokiness, light bitterness and caramel at finish. $2.70 for a 12oz bottle from Tully’s Beer & Wine Wells, Me. RCL (1480), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 23, 2008 Lightly smokey aroma, just about right for the style. Flavor seems a bit treacly, even though it is not that sweet. An interesting beer, at least.
