Lightly smokey aroma, just about right for the style. Flavor seems a bit treacly, even though it is not that sweet. An interesting beer, at least.

I purchased this bottle in Maine on Mt. Desert Island last summer and had it around for a while and felt like popping it open. Pours deep copper with a 1 finger tan head. Nose is sweet and has caramel notes. Taste is sweet, caramel rich and pretty nice overall with a malty backbone. Nice brew congrats on 20 hers to another 20. Anniversary on the bottle states 86-06 so I guess this bottle was about 2 years old.

Tap at Hop Devil Grill. Dark brown beer with a light brown head. Aroma of molasses, black pepper, some nutmeg, brown malt/caramel with a decent earthy hoppy aroma as well. A bit of toastiness. Nice maltiness in the nose. Flavour is also fairly toasty with molasses, brown sugar, and a long earthy finish. The body is a bit thin though and the ethanol really comes through. All the right notes are struck and yet it seems hollow.

Tap at the Hop Devil Grill. Poured into a pint glass. Color is black but slightly translucent. Smells like a porter, chocolate with some hops. Taste is very chocolate-y. Medium-low body. No bitterness. I really enjoyed it.

Rating Geary’s 20th Anniversary Ale. Draft at HDG. Brownish/red with a decent head that doesnt last too long. Flavors are dried fruits, raisens and plums, caramel and a nice light smokiness. Chocolate and toffee with a nice maltiness round it out. Me thinks they could have gotten a bit more creative for their 20th Annivesary.

Raisins, chocolate, bittersweet plums and a hint of smoke in the aroma. Clear, dark, mahogany brown coloured boddy is topped off by a low white head that recedes fairly quickly to a partial cover and ring. Thick, rich chocolate flavour with plenty of caramel character. Vinous plums, chalky roasted malts, some notes of alcohol and a touch of butterscotch round out the tasting. Medium body with lively, moderately prickly carbonation. Sampled on tap at Red Bones with MartinT, muzzlehatch, Olivier_MTL and Rastacouere.

Burgundy pour, filtered and shy with the little head it initially bears. Sweet nose of interesting smoky character. Developping fruity flavour profile goes from grape to blackberry, while balancing leafy hops bring forth candied mint and herb tea notes. Otherwise, fairly typical toffee and mellow butterscotch foundations serve their purpose. Not too heavy and rather characterful, vinous example, of low carbonation that induces a stickiness after as little as 2-3 sips. Still a pleasant surprise.

A nice scotch ale...reddish-brown body, frothy head. Strong malty aroma, slightly sweet and chewy. Not too sweet, but nicely filled with chocolate and caramel. Quite a pleasant beer overall, but nothing striking.
