Via trade with Zathrus13 a ways back. Another left over from a potential tasting beer, that I get to enjoy in a larger sample of this brew with some help from my girlfriend. Poured into my reidel snifter deep brownish red with a thin tan head with lots of lacing. The nose is sweet and incredibly rich with lots of brown sugar, and some nice caramel. Taste is rich and sweet and full of caramel and toffee. There is a nice warming feeling in the throat, but its subtle for a 13+ % brew. Not as good as I’d expect but beyond decent tasty Barleywine. Well, I probably shoudn’t have paid $16 for a beer that I have a couple bombers of in the celler, but screw it. This one has a really pretty reddish-brown color with a medium head. Aroma is oh so inviting - heavy burnt caramel and sugar, rich raspberry, syrup, and some light wood. Flavor is mildly woody with loads of dark sugar and fruit - delectible raspberries, maple syrup, brown sugar....Sweet, syrupy and full bodied. I’m not sure how the bottles are holding up, but this keg from 2006 was damn good with nary a hint of alcohol. Awesome barleywine! Rciesla (3790), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA

This place was cool as hell. Anyway a dark amber apperance with a moderate head. The aroma has an oaky presence with some cherries, raisins, cherries, and caramel. The flavor is quite sweet and complex with some vanilla, molasses, brown sugar, raisins, and caramel. The alcohol is masked well for 13% but still shows. Dear god is this a nice barleywine! | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 30, 2008 Appearance: Pours a clear, dark amber body, but I fear the alcohol killed any chance of a head here. Ever onward!
Smell: Luscious aroma laden with notes of dark caramel, brown sugar, hand-picked cherries, and good ole booze.
Taste: Sharply sweet caramel maltiness with a touch of dark brown sugar. Cherries floating in simple syrup. The hops are, at best, subtle here. Slint hint from the alcohol. Candyish finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Sticky mouthfeel.
Drinkability: A good barleywine, so long as you like’m sweet.
