Commercial Description:
The brewer’s continued struggle for brewing integrity is the inspiration for this dark Belgian-style Dubbel. Imported Belgian malts and dark candi sugar, along with a special strain of Belgian yeast, provide the authentic Belgian fruit and spice flavors. Look for plum, date, cherry, licorice, chicory, and cocoa flavors. 14-ounce servings only! 8.1% ABV, 25 IBU

On tap at the General Lafayette Inn. Poured a medium mahogany color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of plums, cherries and light yeast. Tastes of cherries, plums, and candi sugar. Medium sweet. Has a light, tart cherry finish to it. Tasty - my favorite out of the 3 new GLI beers I had there today.

Bottle courtesy of JB175. Pours brown with a tan head. Smells of spice, fruit, some rich malty hints. Tastes of tarte cherries, nice sweet malt, spice, some earthy touches on the finish.

Hazy ruby with aromas of fruit, cabernet, bready malt, hops, melon, cherries, berries. Tastes of caramel malt, Brett, candi sugar, figs, berries, and cherries. Complex aroma and taste, and another winner from GLI.

Poured a hazy maroon color with a small tan head that left nice lacing. Aroma of yeast, dark fruits, and some raspberry. Yeast was strong in the taste, also followed by malt, bitter grapes, melon, plums, some spice and candy sugar. A nice dubbel.

This was a pretty good dubbel overall. Pours a deep dark ruby amber with a nice off white head and leaves nice lace. Aroma is moslty fruity esters but not overpowering, raisin and plum, dark crystal malts and lightly yeasty. Thick cdark crystal malts- special B- lots of fruity dark candied fruits and raisin- thick sweet caramel and light fruity yeast. Very smooth overall, and not too overcarbed or dry in the end which many dubbles tend to have (which I dont like too much). I really liked this.

Bottle. Brown pour with a tan head. Aroma is fruity, yeasty, sweet spices and some bready notes. Flavor isnt bad but not amazing. Typical bready, yeasty, fruity notes with some odd tart flavors which didn’t really make sense.

In short: A superior dubbel with strong red fruits flavour presence. Excellent.
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Clear amber body topped by a beige ring of foam
In long: Skilful marriage of nutty and fruity flavours. Some nuts and pecans surrounded by a whole lot of fruits. Fresh red fruits and dried red fruits flavours abound going even including strawberries and sweet maraschino cherries. Some red liquorice. The light tartness and sourness just makes it even more quaffable. No alcohol presence at all. Overall crisp and fresh feeling and highly drinkable. Wow! what a kick-ass dubbel. I was told that General Lafayette is starting to bottle their beers and I hope they bottle their Dubbel because if the bottle version is half as good as the tap version it will be quite something. Actually not, if the bottle version is half as good as the tap version it will suck and that’s just a stupid expression.
