Commercial Description:
Dark, sweet, full-bodied and chewy, this is one robust Porter. Imported English malt, as well as plenty of black, chocolate, and crystal malts make for a great dessert beer. Chocolate and coffee flavors dominate this tasty brew— it’s darn good with a scoop of vanilla or chocolate ice cream.

bottle, pours black with a tall brown head. Roasty cocoa nib nose. Sour roasted maltand milk chocolate flavors. Not bad, but I think the heavy carbonation hurts a little.

Opaque black with a tall, dense brown head. Roasty, chocolatey aroma with a slight sour edge. Taste is the same, with a hint of vanilla in the finish.

Pours a black color with a dark small head. The aroma is smoky with olives and dark fruit with some chocolate in there as well. The flavor is smoky coffee dark chocolate and a nice bitterness with some pronounced alcohol notes, complex and delicious!

Sampled cask conditioned and draught. Draught produced a big chocolatey head atop a lustrous obsidian colored body while the cask version had slightly less head. Aroma was strongly chocolatey, cocoa, malty, cafe au lait, and an underly sweetness reminiscent of raspberries. The flavor was roast barley, milk chocolate, medium roast coffee, and again a berry like sweetness verging on cherries or raspberries. The continuous head produced a palate that was initially creamy but not overly viscous underneath. Interestingly the cask version was very reminiscent of a yoo-hoo. Nice combo there and a great porter overall.

Thanks to rustychiles for the share on this one. Aroma is an explosive amount of chocolate, cocoa powder, and barley malt. Taste is thinner than expected, but by no means a slouch. Very well balanced, but still a little lacking in the mouthfeel. Good all-around beer.

Perhaps a higher rating because I’ve just sampled the rest of General Lafayette’s weak line-up.... Poured a deep brown with a thin tan head. Nice roasty aroma with a good bit of chocolate and coffee. Sort of sour flavor, which was weird. Too much carbonation, almost like soda. Definitely the best General Lafayette has to offer, but that’s really not saying much.

Bottle ྫྷoz). Shared by biegaman with me and GregClow. Dark pour, small off-white head. Slightly sour roast aroma, dry and acidic. Taste - too much like sour coffee grounds and sour cherries - weird. Slick, acidic mouthfeel, minerally aftertaste. Odd, a little too sour.
