Commercial Description:
Dark, sweet, full-bodied and chewy, this is one robust Porter. Imported English malt, as well as plenty of black, chocolate, and crystal malts make for a great dessert beer. Chocolate and coffee flavors dominate this tasty brew— it’s darn good with a scoop of vanilla or chocolate ice cream.

22oz handbottle, 2008 batch, courtesy of axilla. Thanks, John! Pours a very dark cola-brown color; textured, medium tan head with solid retention and web-like lacing with medium bubbles; excellent head texture; even for a handbottle, a beautiful pour. Lots of oily chocolate, nougat, and creamy vanilla in the aroma; smells like oily, very creamy milk chocolate. Very relaxed carbonation. Medium-to-full, creamy mouthfeel: roasted malts, ridiculously creamy and dense milk chocolate, nougat, vanilla; a nice citrus and mineral bitterness coming through as well; softly roasted, viscous, chocolate-full porter. Very creamy and generous. Lengthy finish, showing bitter chocolate, tons of breadiness, and roasted malts in the finish; a touch of bitterness.

Pours an oily looking, opague black body with a nice tarker tan head. The aroma is milk chocolate and a good bit of creamy coffee, vanilla, and dry oak. The flavor is mostlty a creamy semi-sweet/bitter chocolate with a big roasted malt finish with some underlying pretzal dough notes.

Growler courtesy of Ty5592 - Thanks! Caveat up front that this was probably filled almost two weeks before consumption (damn head cold), but there was enough carbonation left to keep it good. Pours a light black (yeah, sort of odd, but concur with another that says you can still see through it) with a thin tan head. Aroma heavy on roasted malts with lots of sweet coffee and chocolate mixed in...very pleasant. Flavor is very, very sweet chocolate with a lot of roasted coffee...not much bitterness in there. Very milky/buttery flavor as well. Malt flavors linger long after the drink, and this brew is nice and smooth without getting to the point of coating the palate. Very nice offering that I’m glad I had the chance to try and share with others.

Thin dense head of fine bubbles. Recedes slowly with minimal carbonation. Rich roasty aroma with some sweet molasses, black currents and bit of milk chocolate. Color is a deep dark brown with a hint of red along the edges. Sweet chocolaty flavor with some roasted grains, a bit of coffee, lactose and sweet malts. Kind of gritty carbon in the mouthfeel. Light alcohol presence. Creamy and silky smooth going down with some lingering sweet malts and and a dry roasty finish. Pretty damn good.

Pours dark, but light can pass through. Flavor is very smooth with a nice malty, chocolate edge. Robust, but not over done at all. Feel has a good carbonation and the liquid is nice too. Extremely easy to drink. They say no chocolate bars were harmed in the making of his beer? Bah! Lies! All lies!!

Looks just like the regular CT. Black with small tan head. Chocolate, dark roasted malt, and wood is the aroma. The taste is just like the regular version but has a weird chalky ask after taste.

Draft at brewpub. Black with nice tan head. Smells of dark roasted malts and chocolate. The taste was the same with nice semi sweet notes throughout. Medium body with nice roasted finish.

Head is a dense chocolate milk color with fuzzy thick bubbles providing a solid head that quickly disappears to a slight ring around the edge of the glass. Aroma is dark red fruit and cocoa, some sweet chocolate develops as a product of the mingling of fruit and cocoa. Taste is mildly bitter cocoa powder and touches of smoke; some notes of alcohol and carbonation. I do not get a lot of complexity out of the taste, but it tastes pretty damn good regardless. Palate is slightly fizzy with a touch of sharpness, and a dull bitterness that stings the tongue for only a second before coating my tongue with a slightly cloying chocolate finish. Solid.
