Commercial Description:
Dark, sweet, full-bodied and chewy, this is one robust Porter. Imported English malt, as well as plenty of black, chocolate, and crystal malts make for a great dessert beer. Chocolate and coffee flavors dominate this tasty brew— it’s darn good with a scoop of vanilla or chocolate ice cream.

Pours black with little head. Notes of chocolate in the aroma. Sweet, chocolate and roasted flavor. Light and smooth going down.

Head is a dense chocolate milk color with fuzzy thick bubbles providing a solid head that quickly disappears to a slight ring around the edge of the glass. Aroma is dark red fruit and cocoa, some sweet chocolate develops as a product of the mingling of fruit and cocoa. Taste is mildly bitter cocoa powder and touches of smoke; some notes of alcohol and carbonation. I do not get a lot of complexity out of the taste, but it tastes pretty damn good regardless. Palate is slightly fizzy with a touch of sharpness, and a dull bitterness that stings the tongue for only a second before coating my tongue with a slightly cloying chocolate finish. Solid.

Draft at GLI. Chocolate donut aroma with a really hoppy bite. The chocolate is more in the aroma than the flavor. There’s a burnt malt thing going on. This stuff ain’t half bad.

Thanks to JohnC for sharing this one. Color is as expected, aroma is roasted malt and cocoa. Decent coffee and bitter chocolate flavors but the body is a bit thin to support the overall flavor profile.

This brew pours nearly black with little head. Roasty with some maltiness, the body is a bit on the light side.

Pours an opaque black with dark brown edges and a thin, wispy-lacing light tan head. Aroma of roasted dark malts and some bittersweet dark chocolate and coffee complexity. Body starts with a somewhat thick, earthy dark caramel and chocolatey malty sweetness and good, rich bittersweet dark chocolate complexity. Very drinkable and enjoyable.

On tap at the brewpup. Pretty dark brown with a milkshake, kinf of pinkish, tan head. I don’t know if I was imagining the pinkinsh tint to the head, but it wasn’t my thing. Aroma of bitter chocolate and coffee. Taste was bitter coffee beans, faint sugarless chocolate, but a good bit of cloying sweetness coming from somewhere else. Once I could get past the sweetness the bitter kick was very enjoyable. Too much sweetness overall. Mouthfeel was pretty thick and creamy. Decent.
