JB175 (1366), Holland, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 30, 2006 Updated: Jun 30, 2007Amber color with sweet, Fest-ish aroma. Very sweet taste with plenty of cereal-ish malts and a nice body. Stronger for a lager, but it manages that strength quite well. JF_GRIND (1218), Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 24, 2006 Sweet bread flavor....if regular Octoberfest is perfect for the warm early Fall weather, Doublefest is perfect for the late Fall cooler weather. This beer is a gateway to the winter beers, and had a nice Euro/German Bock characteristics. hopdog (4657), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 20, 2006 On tap at the GLI. Poured a deep amber color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of bread, spices and brown sugar. Tastes of bread, brown sugar, yeast and caramel. Definitely on the sweeter side. Alcohol well hidden. DocLock (4170), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 17, 2006 Draft. Pours deep coppery with aroma of caramel malt, spices including nutmeg, some brown sugar, almonds, and slight fruit. Tastes basically like a caramel malty beer that is somewhat s;iced, but with a nice depth pf flavor and complexity of palate, changing to a more fruity, brown sugary beer and less biscuity as it warms. Very well done. weeare138 (928), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 12, 2006 Appears a hazy, dark amber with a fluffy, 1 finger, off-white head that slowly fades out. Scattered lacing is left around the glass.
Smell is of a bready, doughy, lager yeast that also has some spicy notes, along with a touch of toffee and sweet sugar.
Taste is of that doughy, yeasty, malty brew with a biscuit and tea flavor that reminds me of an English brunch. The IBU’s are around 23 in this one but I think some of the residual bitterness is actually coming from the amount of the yeasty sediment remaining in the brw.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, slightly sweet up front, smooth with a touch of abbrasiveness somewhere in the middle, and fading to a lip smacking, yeasty, spiced finish.
