OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA Mar 27, 2007 Growler via trade with Ty5592 - Thanks! - Pours dark caramel with a healthy tan head that fades back quickly. Aromas of big caramel malts, some raisin, plum, prune, and a slight bit of hops. Flavor is mostly malty with caramel, toffee, raisin, plum, prune, and a little bit of brown sugar. Slightly hoppy at the finish which is lingeringly sweet. Deceptive with the alcohol.. Kept wondering why it felt hot in my house as I went through this growler.. 8.1% now I know why... Easy to drink.. Pretty tasty.. JB175 (1654), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 17, 2007 Darker amber color with light head. Malty aroma with just enough hop-essence poking through. Taste was a nice blend of sweet caramel and brown sugar malts with some pleasant hop bitterness mixed in. This was a very flavorful and pleasant altbier. Kicking myself right now for not getting a growler. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 12, 2007 Draft. Deep coppery ruby edged with aroma of heavy caramel malt, some nuts, and dark fruit. Very caramelly malty flavor, with above average palate heft, and some brown sugary, hoppy, almondy, and dark fruity notes. JFGrind (1346), Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 1, 2007 Malts are in the driving seat of this "Sticke" style Altbier. Roast, caramel, spiced flavors all originating from the malts. There is bitterness and fruit flavors as well complimenting the malts. All around well-balanced, super charged Altbier. TomDecapolis (3122), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 18, 2007 Sampler at the brewpub. Pours a deep amber with hints of golden and an average light tan creamy lacing head. Aroma was fruity, malty, with dark fruits and some caramel. Flavor of sweet malts, caramel, toffee, dark fruits, hints of alcohol and some hop bitterness. Ty5592 (1015), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 11, 2007 Tap at brewpub. Clear shimmery ruby color with creamy head which leaves quickly. Rich, slighty fruity, maly aroma. The taste was the same with caramel and a good spicey roasted flavor showing up. Heavy body for the style but it’s supposed to be a double alt, I think. kramer (2406), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 5, 2007 On tap at brewpub, 2/1/07. Pours a clear light brown with a ruby glow when held to the light. Nice small creamy head that retained as a thin film for the duration. Nose is light coffee and grainy crystal malt with a light hint of diacetyl and toffee. Flavor has lots of nice banana and fruitiness with a light caramel and toffee base. Finishes a little sweet. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with almost a slight syrupiness. Very light soft carbonation. This seemed a little too heavy for an alt. It felt and tasted very similar to Victory’s 10th Anniv. Alt.
