Commercial Description:
From the historic Colonial Inn and Brewery on the site where General Lafayette made his Revolutionary War stand, comes this huge Imperial Stout aged to perfection. Regulars at the Inn know Chris loves to brew high-gravity beers. Malts: Pale, Vienna Amber, Dark and Light Crystal, Chocolate and Roasted Barley. Hops: UK Target, East Kent Goldings (bittering), East Kent Goldings (aroma) and East Kent Goldings and Fuggles(dry hops). Note that different names are used to describe the cask version (the Imperial Stout) and the draft version (Shutout Stout, Grim Reaper), even though they use the same recipe.

Bottle@Dr.Bills red/brn pour with ring head. Dark fruit aromas. Smooth and sweet although I couldn’t taste the alcohol much at all. I bit too sweet and sticky for my taste, but not bad at all.

Growler. Thick black pour with a tan head. Aroma of liquorice, dark chocolate, roasted malt and light vinous notes. Flavors of roasted malt, dark chocolate, liquorice, coffee, earthy hops and a bit of a booze kick.Thick body, roasty/bittersweet with a roasty finish.

shared by Dickinsonbeer at BBD 07. Just about black in color with a light brown head. Aroma was pretty nice and the usuals for an IS- roast, coffee, chocolate, caramel, light notes of dark fruit. Taste incorporated the items listed in the aroma. Nice and full bodied, creamy texture. Very well balanced between the hop bittering, roast, and sweet malts.

Growler, courtesy of dmac621. Thanks, Dave! Pours a murky, dark brown color; light brown head with patchy lacing. Smoky, roasted malts and dark chocolate; some coffee. Dense, dried dark fruits and roasted coffee in the mouthfeel; slightly fizzy carbonation. Lengthy, dry coffee and dark chocolate finish.

Vintage unknown. Sampled from a growler. Carbonation is soft, flavors are subtle milk chocolate, charred fruit and it has a bit of creamy mocha in the finish, but again, the flavors are pretty subtle and faint. A little pasty on the palate, alcohol easily noticed, with some vodka/potato flavors as well... which is stranga. Nice is very light and faint, with milk chocolate and cocoa scents. Looks good, though, with a brown mocha head.

Hand bottle from Ty5592 thanks ty. Maybe the most drinkable Imp Stout I’ve had, alcohol isn’t noticeable at all, slight coffee, plenty of roasted flavor, Chocolate, some dark fruit and sweetness on the finish. A great beer, could drink it everyday! A +

Grim Reaper. Very dark burgundy-toned body with notable viscosity and a deep, velvety tan head. Rich, lush, and pleasing coffee and caramel aromas. Great sweet malt and bitter balance in the flavor. Has nice emerging notes of raisin and bourbon. Lush and decadent, but not cloying, nor too hop-centric. This is a very nice, traditional imperial stout all-around.

Growler: Pours black with a tan head. Aroma, slightly smoky with some roasted malts, dark fruits and chocolate. Flavor, chocolate, roasted malts, some earthy burnt bitterness. I was convinced on a slight smoky quality the whole time. Pretty damn good brew though.
