Commercial Description:
From the historic Colonial Inn and Brewery on the site where General Lafayette made his Revolutionary War stand, comes this huge Imperial Stout aged to perfection. Regulars at the Inn know Chris loves to brew high-gravity beers. Malts: Pale, Vienna Amber, Dark and Light Crystal, Chocolate and Roasted Barley. Hops: UK Target, East Kent Goldings (bittering), East Kent Goldings (aroma) and East Kent Goldings and Fuggles(dry hops). Note that different names are used to describe the cask version (the Imperial Stout) and the draft version (Shutout Stout, Grim Reaper), even though they use the same recipe.

Growler shared by Puddintane - Pours black with a big mocha creamy head that stays quite well and laces. Aromas of chocolate, roasted malts, and just a touch of some plum. Flavor is lots of roasted malts, dark chocolate, plum, and some coffee finds its way through too. Full bodied and oily on the palate make it feel very nice in the mouth. This is a great imperial stout and this brewery has impressed me with every offering I’ve gotten to try..

Draft and from Growler. Black with massive Milk chocolate colored head. The aroma was of deep dark roasted malt and dark chocolate. The tastes was the same with a pleasent roasted nut taste. Very smooth and oily. Solid brew!

Cask @ Gen. Laf. + a growler pour. Beautiful, blackish coloring. Aroma is heavy with dark, roasted malts, some chocolate, a bit of coffee, and some alcohol mixed with burnt sugars & just a bit o’ hops. Flavor is burnt malts. a little alchohol and hop bitterness, and lots of dark fruit/sugar mixed with some coffee. I really have to try one of their cellared bottles of this, but they don’t allow takeout. What a shame - nice Impy Stout that comes up big where it counts!

VIntage ale from The General, black pour with light brown head, soft to flat carbonation, initially sweet, pronounced toffee and toasted to burnt malt, hints of chocolate, mediium to full body, has a chalky finish. High alcohol %. Re-rate from the 5/2007 batch. Liked even better now that I had on tap, smooth, no too strong, very flavorful. Highly recommended it you can try while it is on tap. Even had on the hand punp and it was totally different, very flat and more bitter. Still great.

22 oz bomber at the Brewpub. Labeled "Grim Reaper" Imperial Stout on the menu. 2/06 bottling.
The body poured and settled a deep black and supported a dark mocha head that was roughly a finger thick and fading.
Dark fruit pops in the aroma followed rum soaked cherries, esspresso, burnt malt, dark chocolate and lots of perfumey alcohol. The first sip is still and reveals molassses, burnt malt, dried cherries and dark choclate. Very ample bitterness from both hops and burnt notes. Has a slightly oily feel in the finish. Comes across much bigger and more flavorful than the abv suggests. Solid beer.

Bottled, vintage 2005, sampled July 2006, labelled Grim Reaper. A pitch black beer with a brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of chocolate and wood as well a light notes of alcohol. The flavor is sweet malty with strong notes of over ripe fruits, leaing to a dry woody end. Good aging.

[Shutout Stout at GABF 2004] A pitch black beer with a disappearing orange head. The aroma is sweet roasted malty. While the flavor is sweet roasted and with a dry hoppy end. [7/4/7/3/15=3.6]

A solid black appearance with a beige head. A roasted charcoal and coffee aroma. The taste is very bitter with roasted malts and coffee. Not much sweetness exists in this beer. Overall this was an excellent beer.

a.k.a "Grim Reaper" with 8.1% alcohol. Best of show to this point. Sour up front, chocolate malt, very roasty dry. Slightly acidic finish. Medium-full mouthfeel. Black with small mocha head and lace. quite drinkable.
