Commercial Description:
This Belgian-inspired amber ale is a one-of-a-kind original. Amber in color, spicy flavors and phenolic aromas from the Belgian Abbey yeast join forces with fragrant German hops and Belgian malts to create a complex yet easy drinking beer. Relatively low in alcohol (for the General at least) this is sure to become a multi-pint hit.

On tap (10oz) at the GLI. Poured a deeper, cloudy, orangish/brown color with a small sized, thin off white head. Aromas of bananas, fruity, cloves, and light cherries. Tastes of bananas, yeast, cherries, and all around fruity. Body a tad on the thin side.

Fresh growler courtesy of JB175. Pours red with a creamy off white head that dissipates down to a thin ring of bubbles that maintain a great lacing on the glass. Smells of bananas, cloves, coriander, cumin, cinnamon, some nice fruity elements (mostly different orangey hints), and doughy. Tastes of coriander, lots of herbs, and earthy. Reminds me of a combination of a white beer and Belgian ale as there are many white beer qualities lingering in this one. Hints of pepper and lots of spicy elements come into play on the finish along with some nutty qualities. Mouthfeel is velvety and not overly thick. The alcohol on this one is not noticable at all. Very rich and full bodied for a 5% ABV beer.

Turbid copper with medium off-white head. Aroma of great banana, bubblegum, cloves, some hopcit, and brown sugar. Tastes hefeish, with some Dubblish characteristics. Marvelous complexity and a smooth fruity finish. Very good.

Poured a hazy brown color with a small, off white head, that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of banana, coconut, spicy clove, and yeast. Taste of chocolate and cherries, roast, yeast, and light peppery alcohol. Rather sub-par finish.

Sampler at the brewpub. Pours a cloudy darker amber with an average creamy off white head. Aroma of banana, clove, tropical fruits, Belgian yeast and spices. Flavor of dark fruits, Belgian yeast, some hop bitterness and a dry mouthfeel.

Tap at Barcade: Light orangey amber pour, a bit cloudy. The aroma is simple. A sweet yeasty character with predominately banana fruityness. This stuff is a standard Belgian Ale profile. Overly carbonated, sharp bubbly mouthfeel. Flavor has sweet hints of overly ripe bananas, mild hint of bubble gum, later peppery notes with tons of clove. The finish is chalky and awkard bitterness. Nothing memorable.

Earthy brown hue, though showing crimson highlights in the light, ’round the edges, with a tight, narrow cap of beige foam hovering atop. Aroma: cocoa at first, then edged from the fore by dark, delicious fruit, cassis, cherries, dates, and more, nutty, woody. Taste: complex, to start with, a mild hop appearance, a sturdy malt component, and a thorough showing from the fruit flavor department, dark, but yet stil bright and tasty. Medium in mouthfeel, with a lingering, fruity/ grapey finish. Every sip we enjoy, these tastes re-occur, this jubilant, yet thoroughly well-integrated fruit character stands triumphant and proves the primary factor in this brew’s appeal. Also, we must point to the exceptional ease of drinkablility. Great taste, and goes down so smooth, you keep draining the glass again and again..why, if I didn’t have to wake up in the A.M., this growler wouldn’t last the night! There’s a yeastiness to the taste, too, that only adds to the appeal If I were a local at this pub, I’d sidle up to this sweet thing every time...mild, but flavorful, and quaffable, while terrifically tasty! Damn, that’s a good combination!

Draft at brewpub. Pour dark amber with some reddish hues and a wisp of a head. Aroma of belgian esters and lavender. Flavor of pale Belgian malts and a touch of spice. Phenolic finish that is heavy on a flavor that I refer to as flower petals, a characteristic that is hit or miss with me. Well brewed and quite interesting.
