Flavour is a little sour on the tongue which is both unexpected and unwanted from a double like this. I miss the warmth of malt. Too much sour fruitiness.

| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Dec 12, 2007 Beautiful red mahogany and a golden, creamy head. The aroma has notes of malt and a light sourness. The flavour has slightly sour fruity notes, roasted malt, candy sugar/caramel and a nice bitterness and a light sweetness. IMO it should have more body, but the finish is nice and long and towards the end I find notes of licorice. 1840 TaxiDriver (935), Stadland, Germany
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 7, 2007 Bottle. Red wine, very sweet, spicy. Later on the malt shines through. No head, dark red clear body. Light sweet start, finish is moderate bitter, average duration. Light to medium body, light watery and oily texture, lively carbonation. Good Dubbel, the alcohol shines not really through, the aroma is something really special. benhwilkinson (24), Little Soudley, Shropshire, England

There is a display of good lacing. Aroma is fruity and sugary - slightly roasted. Flavour is very sweet - this betters, as the beer heats up. There are tones of herbs, but it is still a touch one-sided. imdownthepub (5143), Banbury, Oxfordshire, England

Dark brown with cream head. This is more like it, an Abbey Dubbel with warming fruity notes, quite sweet again. There is a spiciness throughout which gets a bit overbearing, I’m really not sure about spicing beers, to round it off there is a sticky, toffee finish. Rich and full, but too sweet and spicy for me. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 15, 2007 Colour is dark brown with a thin whit, slightly tanned head. Bit of friut spice and maltyness to the aroma. Flavor is sweet with phenols and esters. The body is full with lots of small sparkels. The finish is somewhat dry but leaves the impression of the full body. Overall a nice example of the style. BJCP - 18B. Enjoyit (1712), Vadum, Denmark
