Aroma brings a lot of white wine vinegar, lemon juice, and sweet almonds; at once balanced and in wild motion, forward and softly restrained. The best of sour tastes with crystal clear pear and apple flavors, just lightly dusted with sweaty horseblanket and wet animal lambic character. Acidic, but not overpowering, tart, but not puckering, lively, but not sharp. An exemplar of something both quenching to the sour tooth and simple enough to satisfy on an intelligent, but uncomplicated level. Thanks for sharing, Zac! hellomynameis (794), Mayer, Minnesota, USA

Lots of tart sourness in this very fizzy and lively beer. Funky and barnyard sourness galore. BDR (2169), Roseville, Minnesota, USA

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Dec 12, 2007 25 oz bottle, via henrikb. Pours a clear dark copper body, rather dark for a Gueuze. Foamy creamy one finger off-white head. Lots of fine carbonation. Sightly sweet musty nose, with just a slight touch of cheesiness. Nothing like the Black Label. No barnyardy or real funkiness at all. Alot of sweetness up front in the flavor that fades to just a minimal slight sourness. Some musty cork and wet hay on the finish. Mouthfeel is sticky and doughy with a clingy sweetness on the finish. Mild very fine carbonation. It just seems a little too thick. Overall, this was just a huge letdown. I thought that this was just going to be a filtered version of the Black Label and that it wouldn’t make a whole lot of difference, but it seems very different. I don’t understand all the high ratings that his has gotten. Maybe this was a sub-par batch I got? Among the worst Gueuzes that I’ve had. nolankowal (855), Columbus, Ohio, USA

Aroma of light funk, sour, vinous notes, and light sweet malt. Flavors of sour/brett, dry vinous fruits, light sweet malt, and oak. Medium bodt, sour with a sour/oaky finish. Awesome. piscator34 (1134), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 12, 2007 Bottled sample via boutip. Gold in colour with strong yet soft carbonation. Powerful aromas of funk, wood, lemon, leather, and a hint of cheese. More funk in the mouth, with dry wood, leather, and even a bit of blood. Mouth puckering sourness on the palate, and very dry. A fantastic beer, even better than the black label I had earlier this year.
