Aroma has plenty of lemons and funk, while the flavor has less of the funk and more of the citric fruit. Less severe than the black label and no doubt more approachable to someone not into the uber-sour lambics. Mellow and quite drinkable, but still funky enough to ponder over. It was a superb match with some salty, funky cheese. hopscotch (5483), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 26, 2007 Bottle... Cloudy golden ale with a huge, fluffy, white head. Terrific retention. Smells like a day at the races. The aroma is pure funk with notes of horse blanket, wet leather and fallen, musty, damp wood. The flavor is very acidic and acetic, but not super sour due to a very mild sweetness which provides exterior balance. Medium-bodied with a creamy texture and prickly carbonation. Sour, dry finish. The memory is better than the beer had this at the Centrum Hotel in Beersel with a rabbit dish cooked in the same beer. Excellent retention with such small bubbles. The lacing is big arc shaped rings that look like white solar flares. Very rustic aroma teetering on sweet barnyard funk and fruits such as apricot and green raisins, melon and lemon peel. Painfully delightful. Flavor is more of the same. Additions include apple skins, noble hop nuances to a minute degree, big powerful funkdafied yeast. The finish is soft, pleasant and very dry, though not bone crunching like I had expected with a traditional sour(I guess that’s due to filtering). Palate is medium to full, very elegant. I really didn’t expect to like this more than the black label, and I didn’t. It’s still a great gueuze, one I’d definitely love to have again. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Jan 26, 2007 Courtesy beerbuzzmontreal from Secret Santa. Thin white head atop a cloudy dark straw-colored brew. Great aromas: funk, pepper, fruit, sweet yeastiness, sour, grassy, lemons. Taste was fantastic - tartness was not overbearing and some sweetness peeks through the acidity and spice. I liked this one alot. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 26, 2007 Courtesy Jayg. Pours a golden amber with a thick lacey white head. Very tannic and sour in the smell. Big lemons. Taste is "wow!!" Just explodes in the mouth causing my face to prune up. Quite sour with all the funkiness you love from lambic. One of the more intense lambic’s I’ve ever had. Not a sharp bitter sourness, but more of a full bodied one, if that makes any sense. Loved this one alot. Thanks jay
